Buck 110 Brass Defect?

As my knife has 'aged' I noticed a 'sunburst' design in the brass of the front bolster. It is very regular in configuration like gear teeth. I am not concerned that is a defect or that it compromises the quality in any way (it adds to the character and is an easy identifier).
In sunlight the refraction of the crystalline structure appears to have a different 'spectral direction' of discoloration to the surrounding brass as if were a plug (as is done with plywood which has a defect). It appears not to be very deep and is only the rayed ring as I hope the pictures convey.
It is not caused by contact with the sheath and has been visible from very early. No solvents have been used or contacted the knife or anything I can think of.

Looks like something from contact of your hands to me. I'd use Flitz to polish and coat the brass and see what happens.

Thumb print from someone with a high acid level in their sweat.....

Looks like it, I have to watch that, I've even found my thumbprint on nickel silver bolsters where I forgot to wipe it off.

So for I have always been able to get it off with a cloth and Rem-Oil and elbow grease!

The marks you see will be on your front bolsters. You slip those into your leather sheath first, and they ride in the bottom of your sheath. Look on the backside of your sheath at the bottom of the belt loop, the imprint on the bolster will match the stiching of the belt loop. The threads inside the sheath leave those marks on 110 bolsters.

Exactly! This is the reason why I've started ordering my knives with the nylon sheaths for storage and I have several custom sheaths that I use for carry. There's something about the stitching that stains the brass, and it will do it after only a very short period of time. :(

I am getting bad in my old age. I think it IS the stitching. Lines up pretty close. I would never have imagined that was the cause, I feel a bit stupid.
As for "use Flitz to polish and coat" or "Rem-Oil and elbow grease" or "ordering my knives with the nylon sheaths" are far too much trouble. This knife will be lucky to get more than an occasional bath and regular sharpening. I guess you can tell by the dings in picture one this is a user and I don't expect a purty face. I was perplexed as I have never seen this before. New kind of stitching material?
