Buck 110 Dual-Blade "custom"

(This is the 2nd dual blade "custom" I have done; see the thread "Inside a New 110" http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=378651 for the first one) ;)

Disclaimer: I am not a knifesmith, and only do these crazy "customs" to satisfy my offbeat whims. I do not make or modify knives for $$$. There are *real* knifesmiths on this Forum who do; if you are interested in having them do a knife similar to this, feel free to contact them and use this thread for inspiration.

OK; after the fantastically successful  dual-blade 110/112 [copy of the 110/112 Transition knife], I was interested in another 110 "custom", this time with a 110 clip-point blade, and a 426 drop-point blade...So, I used some of the leftover parts from the first dual blader, plus the parts from a stripped [and reshaped] 426...and a home-made center divider, made from .060" brass sheet...

Everything had to be fitted, and when I was happy with the way things looked and worked, I used some temp pins to hold it all together...

Didn't look all that bad, so I fabbed some 1/8" brass pins, and one 1/8" steel pin, and assembled it all again...Then I pressed the brass pins in [actually, the pins were a slip fit, but with my new arbor press, I crushed them in place]...The steel pin is a "floating" fit, with a very mild peen on each side...

I then milled the brass pins flush, power sanded most edges flush, and buffed every surface I could to get rid of scratches...

Here's the finished knife...

There's still a couple fine scratches, and the steel pin doesn't want to buff out, but it came out much better than I expected... :)

Next: My 3rd effort...a drop point dual blade knife, using a 426 main blade and a reground [to drop point] 112 secondary blade... :D

Trax,

Good going, looks terrific!!!! Offbeat whims not-with-standing...you are a knifesmith in my book:).

I'm in awe of your ability to take on something like this and have to live vicariously thru your posting and pics as I have very little mechanical skills/experience.

Question... are both rear spacers the same? Looks, in pics, as though they're are different.

Thanks, Preston

Disregard previous answer... ;)

Those two are the same (one is backwards)...but there *are* differences between the 110 spacers...

I think I mentioned the spacer difference in another thread here, where Mike Kerins needed another reason to buy 110's... ;)

And you're just supposed to look at the pics, not print them out and measure everything... :grumpy:  :D

Here's a comparison of the "large" and "small" spacers...

Very impressive!!! I have been looking over your work the last several nignts till at least 2am....studying your work...awsome! I had to buy my 110/112. Not too bad on price....121 on ebay. Look forward to more of your works!!!

I will post as soon as I figure it out! I work for a friggin' camera comapny, but can't figure it out. Besides a few new Buck knives for my 15 year old son, I bought him an Olympus 6Meg digital camera... and of course he went away for a few days and took the camera. I promise I will get some pics up here....

  ...TRAX...You Da Man ! ! ! !...Really nice stuff yer doin' Trax...:)

I kind of thought the 110/112 was odd but a neat way to commemorate the move by Buck but I didn’t really see the point of having two clip blades. Now this is just cool, a real best of both worlds kind of deal. I wonder if you could get a gut hook cut into the drop point?

I picked up a couple of the 110/112 Transaition knives when they we're available from Smokey Mt. I really wasn't all that excited about them when I saw the pics, but thought I'd order a couple & see what I thought once I saw it in person. The cool & unique factor also had me intrigued. When they arrived & I looked them over for awhile, I was very glad that I ordered them. The only thing I didn't care fore was the cheesy, green plastic emblem in the handle. No biggie though.
Sorry, no camera for me either, so I can't post pics. Nice job Trax! You're very talented indeed. Maybe you should be working for Buck in their warranty dept. or Custom shop. :D

How about a salute of respect to people not afraid to take stuff apart and look at it? Ooh-rah!

Does that drop point blade fit entirely within the profile of the clip point? I have been staring at a 110 thinking about grinding it down.

I'm sure you guys all realize this is all just "parts changing". I'm not creating anything new; I'm just replicating things Buck has done in the past. :)

Buck still has the ability to make these things. Dual blade 110's (with whatever blades); drop-point 110's; even dual drop-point 110's.

We just need to show the bean counters that we'll buy them if they build them... ;)

Hopefully, Chuck or CJ or Joe or Jeff will read these threads and our comments and maybe think about some of these things...

And the thought that counts is...Ka-Ching!!! :D

The addition of a second drop point blade with a gut hook is the most logical concept for a production run of a dual blade version of the 110. I can see a serious hunter wanting to be able to take one knife out into the bush that will do the job.

OK, now I know what a gut hook looks like...and I have a Mikov "Rescue" knife with what *looks* like a gut hook...but the inside loop of the hook is sharpened for cutting [seatbelts, shroud lines]...is a gut hook sharpened??? Or is it just for pulling intestines [ugh] out???

I think the Alpha Hunter is available with a guthook blade, no???

Trax,

I don't use a gut hook but I do think there are sharpened. They are use to open the abdominal cavity for field dressing...you pull the intestines out with your hands:eek:.

...Thanks pjsjr...I was just about to "turn Trax's tummy" when I saw your post...LMAO...  ...LOL...
