Buck 110 Needs A Little Work

hey, first post...

i was given a 25 - 30 year old buck 110. i am cleaning it up some, but i could use some factory help. i looks like a touch of rust in the groove of the handle (where the blade rest) there is also a little side to side movement of the blade.

anyone have any idea how much buck would charge to fix the knife?

while it's pretty cool, i don't want to spend as much fixing an old knife as it would be to buy a new one.

thanks

Robotboy, Buck has a lifetime no questions asked warranty so they'll fix anything that's actually wrong with it (blade play included I believe) and many here have sent in their knives for repair and gotten them back looking brand spanking new. You might want to post a pic or two so some of the resident experts could guide you on it's actual age. Someone lots smarter than me will come along soon and guide you I'm sure. Good luck.

It's been a few years and the price may have gone up, but I seem to recall that buck charged $6.95 to sharpen a 110...which included cleaning & buffing it up...

Email Joe Houser and ask...If the knife has sentimental value, be sure to indicate that in writing when you send it in...

thanks for the replies!

cool about the lifetime warranty. i went to their website after reading your post. you can't beat that! one question - are the 110's still made in the USA? if for some reason they have to replace the knife (which i can't see, but you never know) will it be a USA knife?

i have been cleaning the grime out of it with clp, 3 in 1 oil. it's really not in too bad of shape. the blade needs sharpening for sure.

as far as the play in the blade? it's not *too* bad - it may fall within their specs.

All 110's are USA made, but you may not want a new 110...Depending on how old yours is, it may have a blade steel not in use by Buck anymore (more desirable steel, is what I mean)... ;)

Can you post a pic of the writing on the blade??? Failing that, what does it say??? Indicate any dots, letters, or symbols, like < or > or ^... :D

hay i got some money to put in this
2 yen mater of fact
when you send it it TAPE a note to the blade that you want it back!!
include your name and addy and phone number
(if you can write that small and it is readable)
this makes it much easier for Joe in case it gets misplaced!
you would not believe what his desk looks like!

BTW welcome to our madness ..
bucks are lke chrisp you cant have jest one !
i got a few ...

if you go time to look
ta ta for now (ttfn)

ok - links to pics

the blade has - buck - 110 - usa on it. the 110 has a dot on either side.

You have an older model "slabside" and the blade will be 425 I think...or maybe 440...I don't have my notes here (somebody else will know) but you will definitely want this blade & scales/liners back...and tightening up the play is fairly easy, even if it requires disassembly and a new blade pin...but Buck will likely take care of that...If not, there are knife manglers here who can do it for you...

These old ones are great! ;)

it is dots and i think it would be 440c
a good steel .. thick strong blade also
odd those do lo0ok like dots by the B and the K..
but most likely jest stuff ..
again send the knife in and get it back like new!

I agree a 2 dot. Mfg. from 1974- early 1980. A desirable model of Buck's. Yes, a 440C blade and Macassar ebony scales. Those are worth putting some $'s into for restoration.
Keep us informed on the progress.DM

From the pictures that knife looks like something we can handle for you no problem. Just send it in, with a note indicating that you want the knife refurbished, NOT replaced, and that should do it.
Since the blade is wobbly, it will be a warranty issue so no cost to you.
We should have it good as new and back in the mail to you within 2 weeks of recieving it here in Idaho. :)

Robotboy that is a very nice 110. I have several of the two dot blades, two of which I keep in my EDC rotation. Along with two three dot blades. Congrats on a fine Buck. It will be a keeper for sure. HL

thanks!

i'm pretty stoked...i have been pretty busy for the last month. i'm just now getting around to sending it in. i'm packing it up right now - going out in the morning!

when i first found out about the warranty, i thought "cool, i'll get a new knife for free" so you can understand how happy i am to find out i have a real keeper!
