Yesterday I recieved my brand new 110 with the 2011 stamp.:thumbup:

Comparing it with my 1993 25th ann.NS 110, the 1996 112, the 2001 560XLT and the 2009 Ecolight 110, it struck me that the Ecolite and the new 2011 have a stronger point than the other older three.
On the newer ones, the 2011 is the strongest, the taper begins halfway at the swedge as with the others the taper begins at the beginning of the swedge.
Thus creating a stronger point. The taperangle at the pont is larger at the new ones so there is more steel at the point making it stronger and less prone to breaking.
Leftside 2011 and rightside 1993

This 2011 110 is a fine knife, no play, even grinds and after Lanskying it at 17° it shaves like hell. :D

It came with a black leather sheath but I use the cordura that came with the ecolite for horizontal carry .

Anyone noticed this also, did I miss a thread or was this even official?

Nice feature and a major improvement IMHO.

Thanks,

Math.

Yes,they changed it to make it stronger,I believe they were getting too many people snapping tips off,so they went ahead and fixed that.I like the old look better, but i don't use mone to pry things with so tips don't snap on me much.I'm not sure exactly whern they started this, someone will chime in with the info though!

Thanks for the fast answer.
Normally I don't pry either but sometimes, well, yeah.
A friend broke the tip of his 110 somewhere in the nineties.
At least this stronger point gives more confidence and less fear of breaking the tip.

Thanks,

Math.

I hate lending my knives and usually never do,but i lent my 110 alaskan guide to my bud for less than 5 minutes and sure enough he snapped the tip off prying on a bucket, never again!

The friend I mentioned got the tip of his 110 broken somewhere in the nineties, by lending it to another friend. That guy used it as a screwdriver.

One thing I know, if I had to borrow a knife I would NOT use it as a prybar or screwdriver. I hate demolishing a knife I own but would even be more careful with a borrowed knife. It never happens because I always carry a knife, be it a U2.

My wife always says, don't do to others what you woudn't want to happen to yourself. She's right.
