I have a couple of questions that I'm hoping you guys could help me out with. I picked up an older buck 110 with the .Buck.. tang stamp. I think that dates it to like the late seventies or early eighties right? Anyway, the plot thinkens. As I was cleaning it up I noticed that in a faint (nonprofessional) scrawl on flat of the backspring is etched "Paoln 05-163-330" Im trying to figure it out, it doesnt seem like a social security number, could it be a military id # or something like that? Anyone care to venture a guess on this one?

Yeah, its the .110.. stamp placing it at 1980. Act in haste, repent at leisure :) So its not a military id...what would have that 00-000-000 number arrangement I wonder

Well it's not the normal pattern for a social security number either, I know how you feel, finding something like that on a knife would drive me up a wall trying to find the history.

Maybe an employee number?

Just a bit of a flyer here......
Maybe etched for insurance/identification purposes?

Could it perhaps be a foreign SIN or Military ID? I know in Canada both our SIN and military ID follow a XXX XXX XXX format. The SIN is all numbers, and a Military ID begins with a letter.

My guess is it's nothing more than a series of #'s the owner made up to make it more personal & ID the knife to him. (instead of using a SS #)
