Buck 110 question

Hi all, I'm relatively new on bladeforums, I recently acquired a 110. Just asking if this is normal. When the blade is closed it easily moves from side to side yet when opened locks up tight with tinyest barley perceptible fraction of play, releasing the lock while open and the blade gets quite a bit of play. Sorry if this sounds silly but this is my first buck lockback

Thank you

Welcome to the Buck forum, neoflare! In answer to your question, some play when closed is quite normal on a 110. The important thing is that your lockup is solid. One thing that you can be sure of, is that Buck will look after you if you feel that all is not right.

Thank you A.P.F, from what you've said then its normal. I'm rather happy with the lockup itself, it was just that bit of play while it wasn't in a locked position I was curious about.

Hey Neoflare...

Interesting question to me. So I checked out the four 110 knives sitting on my desk right now. Three had some degree of wobble. One is rock solid.
The three that have some play are from the Custom Shop...not a lot of play, but there.
The one that is rock solid is a 110 Idaho stamp run of the mill stock. I mean, ZERO wiggle.
All are soild with no wiggle when deployed. IMHO, that is what counts. So, I think you are ok :)

I agree w/ goose. I've noticed in the past w/ some alittle wiggle but dang guys this is very minor. Still, the important point it that they lock up solid. DM

Thanks for the replies everyone. The wiggle isn't a problem given it locks up solidly. I've only had the 110 for about a day and a half now and it's very quickly becoming a favourite plus it feels great in the hand. I'll more then likely start to carry it as my secondary knife.

Why lowly "second"? :)
What is your primary?

Mine had wobble when closed and slight wobble when open.

I tightened it in a vice and sanded the pins back flush.

Now there is no wobble in either position.

Well, perhaps a touch in the closed position.

Eric.

Hey all. I'm in Australia. Right now I own four bucks, the 110, a rose wood alpha hunter, pilot (which isn't a favourite), the Mayo Hilo and a 119. My primary is generally the 119. Secondary's are a Boker Appaloosa large stockman, a USA made Shrade 80t or CS 5" Tanto Voyager. I don't live in a major town or city but more of a rural setting on 250 acres. When I have to venture into towns or cities I have to drop the 119. My primary becomes usually consists of these a CRKT M16, SOG Vulcan or the Hilo, the secondary is usually a SAK. I just edited my first post, it was meant to say my first buck lockback,

I would like to see a pic of your 119 in action. I am one of the hunters of
this group and am always posting pic of fish and game with my Bucks.

Hey Neo...welcome to the forums. This is one great bunch.

We are always coming up with new innovative stuff but it is hard to beat 110's and 119's for good, solid function and we have been making these for so long they are dialed in.

As to blade play when in closed position I will go in today and examine some knives. It is important that there is no interference with the slight bit of spring resistance that keeps the blade pulled closed when not in use. If there was any binding between the blade and the liner it might get hung up causing the tip of the blade to remain exposed and that can cause injury....

Go to a major auto manufacturer and post about an issue and see if the head guy goes out on the line to research it.

Thank you for that CJ Buck, I'm with Hard H20 on that, very impressive customer support which you wouldn't find hardly anywhere (something I've noticed during my exploration of the buck forum). Everyone seems friendly here. Hawkeye unfortunately no pic's at the moment, though I could come up with some photo opportunities. Thanks for welcome Dave much appreciated, no doubt you'll see me here more often. It's 2:25am I seriously need to think about sleep.

Have yourselves a good one.
