Hey,
Found this old knife hidden away from when I was a kid. Anybody seen one like it, or know anything about it... Its a buck 110 but the blade is quite a bit shinier than the regular Buck knives, and it has the "republic" engraving on the blade, on the back is the number 0191 which leads me to believe this is one is a series or who knows how many, anybody have any information on this knife?

Buck has issued many engraved 110s in limited quantities throughout the years. If you can date the knife, someone on this list may be able to look it up and tell you how many were made and perhaps for what pupose it was issued. Is there anything on the reverse side? It looks to be a 4-dot which would date it from the mid to late 80's.

Ok here goes,
The 4 dot blades were made from 1981 - 1985. Your knife was a 1986 issue. It's Republic Studios - Eagle Logo, Project #E-4043, 100+ were made, Aurum black etch on blade, Ebony handle, Brass frame. This knife should have come in a Jewel box.

It's very nice. I thought I recognized that etching....it's at the start of a whole bunch of movies;)

A whole bunch of *great* movies!!!... :D

Here's a list of...nah...we don't have enough room... :(

But Republic was a leading studio in the Golden Age of Movies...back before the computer-generated trash that's thinly disguised as "motion pictures" today...

Why, <snip! - rant deleted by mods!>

Good going there JB.I knew that etch was familiar. That's a great knife.Quite valuable to the right party.I love those Aurum etches.

WOW!!! Guys I'm thoroughly impressed.... Interestingly enough, i've had this knife for about 15 years, never knew what it was. Ended up as a film major in college, and worked for a few years where the old Republic studios used to be as well as others.... I think i've seen a few old westerns with this logo!!! Any idea how I could check to see its value??

like as not you wont find it on ebay ..
in the time i have been watching i have not seen this knife..
i have one another bcci member sold me ONLY because he had two and i had none in my displays in Atlanta and he thought i needed one.. it went right in the display !! ...

Al Buck was involved with some movie stars and several were cowboys.
i believe this is partly were the term buck-a-roo's come from for buck nuts come... sounds good any way!!
in the book of buck there are some pictures of him on the set with cowboy stars..
it is not surprising with those contacts that a movie company knife would be made..
value ...between 150 and 200 i would say...
i would love to hear the big O's estimate as he has been at this longer then me. !!
(( hint hint ))..

I'll second what Dave said, I check Ebay for any auction with "Buck" in it once a day, and in probably 3+ years of that, have not seen a Republic 110.

20+ years, and only 100 or so made, gonna be a rare one at this point!

The knife sells for between $50 and $100 depending on the situation. Mine cost $82.10 and I saw two sell for $50 each at the Blade Show three years ago. Anyone who wants one might try Frank Meek. His contact information is in the BCCI Newsletter.

wow learn some thing every day.. thanks for that info!
this is still the best place to learn buck lore short of a club meeting..
for what it is worth i paid 100 for mine at the blade show 2 years ago..
and was happy to get it at that..still am happy with it..
it jest proves ...
some thing is worth what some one will pay at that moment in time
i like my knives even if they lost half of their 'value'

Thanks for your info Richard, without your vast knowledge all I would know about old buck knives is that I like those things a lot:thumbup:. That is about what I had in mind for this ones value. However, as we all now the market will decide it's value on the day it is sold. Like the wind some days the value blows up...and some days the value blows in the other direction.
