Today I received my first 110 and it is a good one! I was looking at the edge under some magnification and can easily see where this S30V steel is toothy as I've read. I'm impressed with how sharp it is right from the factory - I shaved a few hairs.

This is my first and only S30V blade. What's the best angle and stone to use on it?

Thanks,
Paul

Why worry?

By the time you need to sharpen it the techniques will probably have changed.

It's my EDC.

What a knife!

Hoo-ah!

I edc one, great knife. Hoping to feild dress and skin a deer with mine very soon !!!

I went through 4 or 5 deer with my AG 110 before it needed sharpening. I used the diamond hones on Lanskys clamp system but did have some difficulty. The guys here suggested I just use the course diamond and the medium diamond, and that gave me the best results. I may have been polishing it too much with the fine stones.

I think next time I go at it, I am going to use the 17 angle on the lansky just for grins. Used the 20 last time.

Sharpening is seriously subjective as the guys will chime in with their different ways and methods.

Also Gooser pointed out to us, that buried in the papers that comes with the AG, Buck offers free sharpening for the AG's. I guess you pay shipping.

Yeah, contrary to what some may think. S30V will get dull.

The 110 AG is most definitely the sharpest knife I've ever owned straight from the factory!

From my readings about S30V it is not a blade for a polished edge and needs a fairly coarse stone. I think I'll get one of the Norton Crystolon stones.

The 110 is a heavy hunk of knife, but it fits my large hands very well.

Hi Paul,

Like Rocinante, JR, & Ratty, I also EDC an AG 110. It's an awsome knife and I'm sure you will love it. Like Ratty; last year I took one to Deer camp for field testing with a few other Buck knives.....I was so impressed with the AG that the others didn't see much use :). I also use the Lansy set to sharpen my AG and do it just like the Rat said....no fine stone....maybe as you observed in the scope the micro saw edge may cut better than a smooth edge.

...A knife used for EDC is one that's used for Every Day Carry...Welcome to the forum...

As "Ratty" (LOL John) and Doc D. said..."welcome" Paul.

You couldn't have picked a finer knife for your first 110.
The AG is impressive. It will stay sharp a long time.

I have had a AG 110 S30-V Since thy were introduced,I forget exactly how many animals i did before i had to sharpen it,but it was unbelievable how well it will stand up to really heavy use without needing a sharpening,as long as you give it a light touch up now and then,it will be ready when you are.

Pac Rat, you are right. This site is addictive, can't stay away.

and then you buy another, and another, and another.

for heaven sakes, stay off ebay....:D:D

when you get up to buying 5 or 6 blades a month, you will seek out the local Buck anon group...:o:o

I love the Buck AG 110!!!
In my opinion, you can't buy a better knife for less than $70.00 dollars.

Great shots, allen, thanks for sharing. I agree, that is one gorgeous 110!

I'd better check my bag - that looks just like my knife!

I think the Buck 110 S30V may be one of the best knife purchases I've made. Although I like the wood inserts, I may send it off someday for stag inserts.

I joined this group - and, ultimately, the BCCI, because of the 110AG. I was contemplating buying a second one - as a 'carry' knife, leaving the other one for 'art'. They are beautiful, no doubt... and very useful! Now, I've bought so many other Bucks, custom 110's I have yet to see, that the second 110AG got lost in the shuffle... hopefully, some day soon...

Although not a 110/S30V, I do have one of the "Alaskan Guide" Vanguards with the S30V blade. It is one fine knife! I agree that coarse and medium diamond stones are the best. It holds an edge an incredibly long time.

OK - now you've really done it allanC. Not only do I want your knife, I also want your camera. What a picture!
