So I see these every once in a while on the water. What is their history or why are they so special?

It appears to be a normal knife with a company logo on the handle. Nothing supreme about it, unless you really like the brand Supreme.

cant post a link so try supreme buck.
I have seen these before and just passed them off now there is a 112 which peeked my interest.

Supreme is a skateboarding shop/clothing brand[1][2] established in New York City in April 1994.

that is the one. Thanks BuckShack. The "supreme" looks to be a sticker and not engraved/painted.
Just wondered why they are so special so it must be the brand edition like Cabelas, etc.

It is a normal Buck knife, except it has a company's name on it. This type appears from time to time with different names. If you worked at this company it might make it more desirable. DM

SUPREME is a company, based in NYC that sells Skateboards as well as clothing and other branded merchandise. I knew this because I looked it up when someone was trying to sell a "SUPREME" Buck 110 on eBay for a ridiculous price, $400 or $500 as I recall. /Roger

Company website here.... http://supremenewyork.com/

.... I just noticed that BuckShack already answered this above.......

Supreme Skateboard .... $799 on the bay and no wheels! ....geesh

Yep. That is what this old guy thinks when he hears "Supreme." I do not recall ever seeing them sporting 110's on their evening dresses.

What is the handle material on this knife?

I have never seen one in person but something is clearly different.... no scale rivits.
The model code on the box end is non standard and implies 'Cherry Wood'.
