I just bought a Buck 110, and one thing I noticed would make it better is a thumb stud for one-handed opening. Has anybody done this? Is it even possible without ruining the blade? Any tips on how to do it and where to buy a thumb stud if it is possible?

Thanks

It sure can, an easy way is to hunt down a "one armed bandit" that just attaches to the back of the blade.

no idea where to get one, but pretty cool.

I bought an add-on attachment off the auction site. It was inelegant and I wasn't certain it would stay on, so I stopped using it.

Well about 35 years ago when I was a young lad, I put a blob of solder on the side of the blade of a Kabar 110 clone. It didn't look good, but performed just like a thumb stud. Thinking back, I may have ruined the temper of the blade. Perhaps someone more familiar with metal work could do something that looks good and doesn't ruin the blade.

For those of you who may be interested, I ordered a OAB from jaysknives.com (I called the toll free number). His service was fantastic. Received it a mere 2 days after placing the order. It is similar to the pic above posted by Morimotom, but not quite the same. It also seems to work quite well and holds on quite nicely to the back of the blade. I may eventually put a tiny dab of blue loctite on the screw though, if needed. The only slight downside is that it is now REALLY tight in the sheath. It fits, but it scrapes the edge a bit.

Looks just like a One Arm Bandit, but gold in color. Hmmmm!
