Buck 110 to the Rescue

This past weekend was the youth (gun) deer season in Ohio. One of my son's friends had finally talked his Dad into doing the Hunter Safety course and getting their licenses. They asked if we could hunt together since we had a few years experience. Since we're all friends, I thought it would be a good idea and it was. We set up about 50 yards apart watching different areas.

Around 10:00 we heard Levi shoot. After waiting a few minutes we walked over to them to see if we needed to start tracking. They were just calming down enough to start moving and filled us in on what happened. A young 8 pt had appeared from behind some bushes and walked right at them. It finally turned at about 20 yards and gave them a broadside shot. The buck dropped right there, thanks to a good, double-lung shot no tracking needed.

After some congratulations and high-fiving, it was time to get to work. Levi's Dad had forgotten his "military knife with serrations" at home. So, Levi pulled his knife out of his pocket. I'm not sure what brand it was, but it sure looked fancy. He tried to start cutting in, but the knife couldn't even get through the skin. At this point, my son, Nick, pulled out his 110 and handed it to Levi and said try this.

Of course, the 110 did the job with ease with both Levi and his Dad commenting on it. I think they were planning on going to pick up 1 or 2 for themselves when we were all done.

Even though Nick and I didn't see any deer other than the one Levi shot, it was a great day. Nick said it was one of the best hunting days he's had in a long time and that was after we helped carry the deer back to the vehicles (1.5 miles).

I'll apologize now for not providing any pictures. I don't like posting other peoples pictures on the Internet and didn't think of taking a pic of the bloody 110 until after it was cleaned up.

Ha! Great story.

You know, I have seen that type of scenario a couple of times where guys with fancy so-called military style Rambo knives have to borrow a Buck to field dress a deer because theirs will not do the job. It is too funny.

That was a GREAT story, BusyDad. Thanks for sharing!

Great story, great image! I love stories of a young mans first deer. Everyone should own a 110. If you don't, get one.

Thanks for adding the picture TAH!

J Buck, I agree, everyone should have a Buck 110. Personally, I have 3. My son has 2.

When I was growing up, nobody in my family hunted or fished, but my best friend Dan's family was full of avid sportsmen. All the good hunters or fisherman had a Buck 110 with them all the time. I remember buying cheap knockoffs to try to be like them. It wasn't until many years later, when I got my first 110, that I really understood why the old guys carried them!!

Great story, thanks for sharing 👍
I was tempted a few times to buy pos10$ knockoffs, but just couldn't do it as I knew that the real deal was something to be proud of. It wasn't until I was 18 that i finally got one, but when I did i knew that I had made the right choice.

110's rule. Great story OP. They are the classic American knife. I've been carrying mine as my edc lately, and love it.
