Howdy guys ive got a buck 110 and and case hammerhead both seem to be good knives both knives dont have any blade play. I was wondering witch one yall think is better.

My preference is Buck 110. Not only is their 420hc better than the case 420 but Buck has far more upgrade steels and other materials to choose from. And finally Buck is “ The King “ of folding hunter knives since 1963. In my experience and opinion it isn’t even close.

I have to agree with you I like the 110 better to. The blade was razor sharp when I got it and the hammerhead wasn't I also like the wood scales better on the 110 also the sheath for the hammer head is lose so every step you take the knife bounces. Both are good knives though

I dont mind the styling of the case but I definitely like the wood scales better on the 110 the hammerhead in all honesty the case is not worth the extra money.

I have some case lockbacks, the xxchanger with the extra blades you can switch out is ok,none get as sharp as regular Buck 420 and I find they dull much faster doing the same chores as a 110 with 420 you will need to sharpen the case more than the 110 .thats my experience, case makes a decent knife too but it's more money lol

You cannot ask a question like that on a Buck Knife enthusiasts forum and expect totally unbiased answers. I own Buck, Case, Schrade, Gerber, and Camillus lockbacks (that I can think of); in the greater sense (cleaning a deer or other game animal) they all perform the same - you can skin, debone, and cut up your venison with any of them. Buck's older steels (440C & 425MOD) will last a bit longer between touching up the edge while in the midst of cleaning/cutting, however their current steel is about the same in edge retention as the others (but very easy to touch up). I prefer the Buck 110 due to the ergonomics of the handle - just the right size (not too thin - as is the Hammerhead and old Gerber Sportsman) or as blocky as the old Schrade LB7. Buck did it first and got it right first - the others work fine, but not quite as comfortable in the hand over the longhaul IMO as the Buck 110. OH

I prefer Buck 110
The case is nice enough but it is my experience from around the early 80s that they were not as hard to sharpen but they did not hold an edge near as long as a 110.
I always thought the shape was nice enough looking though, takes all kinds

I am a Case knife guy, but I have owned both and for me the Buck is head and shoulders a better knife. It may have been the one Case Hammerhead that I have owned was a bad example, I dont know. The Buck was smoother in operation, the lock was crisper, the blade was well centered when closed, the backspring to back of blade fit was excellent, the handle was better finished and I am not going to even bring up the cost difference. There wasnt a single aspect of the Case that was better. The Buck 110 is one of the best deals in American made cutlery.

i dont have experience with the hammer head but i have several case lockbacks and they all have vertical blade play in the lock area. i wanted a tribal lock a few years ago. i went to several case dealers and tested every tribal in the handle i wanted. all of them had lock play. in my opinion, an $80 knife should not have a sloppy lock, especially when a $10 rough rider locks like a steel trap.

My Hammerhead is old and well used - late 1980’s, but has no blade play at all - locks like my Buck’s. I just like my Buck Knife blade geometry and handle design better. The Case steel is as good as the 420HC and the sharpening is the same. I like both but like the Buck better and (as has been pointed out) the Buck is half the street price of the Case - what’s not to like about that!! OH
