I'm not a big fan of clip-point blades...Although I have several 110's and 112's...

Any chance of Buck doing a drop-point 110??? :)

The timing of your question is uncanny. The Buck Collectors Club is working right now on offering a finger grooved, nickel silver frame 110 with s30v drop point blade and sambar stag inlays. We also plan to omit the nail nick. It will not be serialized.
The issue will be limited to a run of only 200 pieces and will be offered only to club members. Club members will be able to purchase only one knife per membership number unless there are unsold units at the end of the run. I think this is unlikely so if you are not a club member and want one of these special 110s, now is the time to join!

yikes  I think it's time to join!

Your response is uncanny...I had just been to the Club site and was debating applying for membership... :D

I imagine the run will be gone before it gets down to my spot on the list [pending approval of application] but I'll take a gamble...Just downloaded the PDF form, the check/form will go out tomorrow! :D

ah crud, is that how it works? Goes down a list? Or first come first serve?

Just out of curiousity...Why no nail nick???

I've never been a big fan of finger grooves either...

Oh, well...I made up a template of a drop-point blade, and if I was careful, I could grind down a 110 clip-point blade to drop-point and only lose 3/16" - 1/4" of the tip...

Doesn't look too bad...in PhotoShop... :D

(But my check is in the mail!!!) ;)

When the knife is offered in the newsletter, it will be on a first-come, first-serve basis to club members. If the demand is overwhelming, I am confident we can do another run although the inlays might not be sambar stag. Let's cross one bridge at a time!!
I have had one eager club member already email me and request to be placed on the list. I greatly appreciate his excitement but please do not do this!!! Wait for the announcement order form in an upcoming newsletter and then place the order. We are aiming for the December newsletter to offer the knife but that is not carved in stone.
The reasoning for omitting the nail nick is multi-faceted. One, we want this knife to really be special with features never before offered on a 110. Also, with a fingergroove frame, a nail nick is not really necessary. Third, the look will be very unique.
We are very excited to offer a high grade steel, sambar stag and a different blade style to club members. This will truly be a special 110. I think it will be a great using knife and I know it will be a collector's dream.

And then keep your fingers crossed that it's made as advertised.

Larry -

I have a question, and if this is not the place to discuss it, please let me know and I'll delete this...(I checked the "Unofficial BCC website" listed at BCCI but it is gone!)... :(

What treatment of the Sambar Stag scales does BCCI/Buck have in mind??? I say this because I have two knives with Sambar Stag, one is sanded and the other is raw...Here's a link to each to illustrate...

Sanded & fitted - http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b390/FrogBait4/Misc/frost2.jpg

Raw/"bark" left on - http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b390/FrogBait4/Misc/parker_blade.jpg

I know which one I prefer...What does BCCI/Buck prefer??? :D

Rich,
I have not seen the stag but it should not look anything at all like the two examples you linked. It definitely will not be smooth as in your top link. I would expect the stag used on this project to closely resemble the stag shown on the Custom limited edition 501 shown on page 30 of the 2005 Buck catalog. Please remember that due to its intrinsic nature, stag will vary and we can expect some variation in the inlays. Still, the picture I have referenced should be a good starting point for our expectations.
I trust this helps your thinking!!

I like the scales shown on pg 33 (the 192 vanguard NRA) although the material is not identified...but it looks like the same stag as shown on that knife I linked to a couple posts above this...[drop110t.jpg]... :)

Ah, well...I didn't get what I wanted for Xmas last year either... :D

My reply:
I think that is Elk stag. Sometimes, especially when one only has pictures upon which to base a decision, elk closely resembles sambar stag. Also, sambar stag often has more of a cream color than the yellow. In my opinion, both of them can look great. I have a custom shop 110 with BG-42 that I use for cleaning rabbits and the stag on it is awesome. It has more of the cream and black look with a few nodes protruding-just enough to look neat and yet does not interfere with holding the knife.
The old line about the woman kissing the cow comes to my mind!!

Wow, no wonder you like those! I prefer drop points too, but until I saw that picture I didn't realize how nice it looks on a 110. Another suggestion for the custom shop maybe?

How big a backlog do you think they'll have??? Months??? Years???

I was wondering that myself. I HOPE they get a big backlog from a lot of buyers so they will expand their options. But of course I am impatient and want mine right away, so I'll be waiting on 10/20/05 at 11:59pm.
