My yearly visit to Walmart, I looked at a 110 for les than MSRP, that they stock. The SKU is Walmart specific is there any difference? Does the price match the Walmart quality specs?

It the same 110 as they sell every other place. That's what happens when you have thousands of store sites, you can dictate prices to your suppliers. Some suppliers will allow their brand to be sold at a loss or break-even price to keep their branded products visible the market place.

No not the same, they have a canvas sheath and no 50 Anv. logo. I didn't get one thinking they were manufactured to WM specs. Even if they're the same I'll still pass. If it cut into a company's profits that remains loyal to America, then we should at least give them our support.

My understanding is that Walmart has a policy that if your product does not sell, the company has to take it back, so Buck would lose out even more than having the knife sold at cheaper prices. John

I bought a Buck 110 at one of their stores here last month for a last minute Christmas gift - same price in eastern NC as you quoted. I guess Buck has to loss-lead with the 110 - I would think they know what they are doing in running their business. Surprised me that it was packed in a pasteboard box and not a clam-shell package. OH

It's been addressed here before by Buck employees. The product made for Walmart isn't any different than any other Buck product. The exception is that Walmart may request a nylon sheath rather than leather or a blister pack for rack sales rather than a box.

Loss leader. And one of the best bangs for your Buck. The nylon sheath is excellent. You're actually getting a $65 knife, according to Chuck Buck, and he told me that about five years ago. Can't go wrong IMHO -- it's the exact same knife made in Post Falls, Idaho.

It's an interesting discussion, but how is this not price spotting and a clear violation of forum rules?

It's the exact same 110 sold everywhere else, the sheath is different but the quality is identical. Neither Buck nor Walmart is making a loss.

Actually I bought two 110's with the 50th anniversary anvil on it last year at Walmart. They had them marked down on sale for $26.99 at the time. I've heard that the canvas sheath is what allows Buck to sell them at a lower cost at their stores. That and they are clam packaged, not boxed.

Just bought this tonight from the big W-m.
This store has them boxed with nylon sheath. Less than 28.00. Bought as a gift.

Looking around there are other online people with them for the same price, and with a leather sheath.

Yes, Scott is to the letter of the forum law correct. The avalanche of price quoting Walmarts 110s above, in fairness to smaller dealers/sellers, should stop.

I realize it has been a discussion on how WM is able to price 110s at that level, but because it is such a large organization and there are some about everywhere, we tend to forget about not quoting the cost. As stated also, to the best of my knowledge a 110 is a 110 is a 110. Sheaths and packaging can be different in this companies offerings. Lets skip the cost quotes.

I have written and re-written talk on price quoting and always in the end the simple way to say it is " No prices". If someone needs a price range on the value of a knife or wondering if they have the means to buy one, then give them a range of cost of 5 or 10 dollars.

PS Sometimes folks join BF and get excited to get going and don't read all the rules, here is a quick link to a page that should provide you with almost everything you ought to know. You may think I live on BF, but I don't, so help me with someone new who could benefit with some rule reading by suggesting they go to this link or just say the FAQ box at the top of the page. One of the things you will read there is the owners statement "Be Nice to each other" - sounds about right.
