I just finished a Buck 110 for my personal collection a couple of hours ago. The Buck 110 has some of the most incredible dinosaur bone I have ever been able to get my hands on..... Canary yellow is the rarest color found in dinosaur bone and these scales have a lot of the canary yellow!

This one is going to get engraved bolsters next month..........

Oh dear - my scientific training kicked in and my first thought was "what sort of dinosaur was it?" - never mind - awesome work

Those are very nice scales. Post another photo when the bolsters are done!!! So tell us how you made those scales???

All,

The dinosaur bone is really fossilized bone. It is from a dinosaur that lived in the Jurrassic period based on the rock formation the bones were found. I am not sure of the exact state this dinosaur bone is from but most likely Utah or Colorado.

I buy about 1/2 the bone I use from dealers I know and do barter trades for the other 1/2. It is a very rare commodity and can no longer be collected from publically owned lands so it is only getting more difficult to buy or find. I have enough to last a few years but most I own is not anywhere near this quality.

You can do an Ebay search for dinosaur bone and get a bunch of dinosaur bone slabs and other items to look at but most of what is sold there is not solid or big enough for what I need for knives.

Seriously, that looks awesome. Nice work!

Wow, talk about holding a piece of history in your hand! That is just drop dead gorgeous!

Just placed an order for the Leopard Jasper Prince!:)

Plumberdv - You got a great deal. Knivesupply.com barter traded me for those knives when I was pretty much just getting started. They listed them for basically their cost. So, that is pretty much the only place to get any of my "early" knives. Understand that since then my skill level has greatly improved so they are a little "rough" in comparison to one I would do now. The cost of ordering that knife as a custom order would also be a lot higher.

Oh ya! It's amazing what one can do with the 110 with a bit of customizing. Very nice work indeed.

I like it ! One question tho...Are they fragile ?/ Will they take a drop?

They are stone so they are more fragile than bone but they tend to land on the bolsters in a drop. I have only had one customer break a scale in a drop and that knife did not have bolsters. I have REALLY hit them hard against the machine arbors and metal housings a lot when I make an oops and run the knife off the sanding wheel. So far out of DOZENS of hits I have not had one break.

Now the one that got grabbed by the buffer and slammed into the oak counter is another story but it didn't have bolsters too....

I have probably a couple dozen that were bought for EDC knives.

I'll more than likely never carry mine. I'll just fondle it alot.:p
