Buck 110 with tiny bit of vertical blade play ?

I stopped at the sporting goods store yesterday and bought a 50th anniversary 110 and I'm kind of mad at my self for not checking the blade play and telling the employee to go grab another 110 from behind the counter. It's too late now to take it back to the store because I already scratched the brass a little bit, but I have held cheap 110 knock offs with no vertical blade play and I am disappointed that a USA knife came like this.

The blade play is not that bad, it just goes up & down a very tiny bit and the blade locks up with no side to side play....So does it really matter if this knife comes with a tiny bit of up & down play ?

Check the notch in the blade where the lockbar tab fits into.
Clean it really good with some oil and a toothbrush (or something like that)
That might take care of it.
Shoot...just oiling it in there might let the lockbar tab seat better too.

I've got one with a small amount of side to side and could care less. It has zero effect on the function of the knife as it was designed. If I use it enough to cause an increase in the play to the point that it is no longer safe to use I'll ship it to Buck for a fix and a spa treatment and that'll be it.

I guess it's not worth sending it back to Buck, I'll just buy another 110 and throw this knife in the truck to use as a beater blade, still locks up good enough but I just have O.C.D. sometimes with my tools.

My new 110 ecolite only has play if I pull the blade down, as if I was closing it. Only a tiny bit. I don't see it as a problem.

If it is only a tiny bit when pushing down, like closing it, and not any at all in the up direction, like cutting something, then that seems to be not a problem at all.

I ended up putting some grape seed oil in it and now the blade play is gone and it locks up pretty tight....... I guess somebody didn't put oil in it at the factory.

Good thing. However when youre buying things for yourself i.e knives, guns, etc. something you have to think of is, did you buy it to use or did you buy it to put away? Thats

bought it to use it and maybe get another one to keep as a safe queen, but even if it was a safe queen I wouldn't want it to be a lemon.

Out of all the 110's I own, only one has side to side blade play. It's a NIB AG Ironwood 110 signed by Chuck and CJ Buck on the blade some years ago. My guess is CJ maybe a little stronger than thought.
Anyhow I've been planning on sending it to Buck for repair along with an old 110 no dot for a spa job , far to long. :o
