I bought a new buck 110 couple days ago. when locked it is very solid and no blade play in any direction. when closed, however, the blade moves side to side by just shaking the knife although it is not touching the liners. could folks with experience of buck 110 tell if this is normal? thx in advance.

It is not normal and you should take it back to where you bought it for an exchange or send it to Buck and let them fix it under warrantee.

I just sent in my early 70s 112 for the same thing. Blade locked tight when open, but easily moved side to side when closed. I would take Doc's advice.

Here's a recent thread on the topic: Link

I had the same issue with a new CKS 501. I've sent it right back to Buck; I'm sure it was just a QC oversight. I suggest you do the same.

the few i have owned moved with very light pressure, or are loose sort of...... but not wobbling and clinking back and forth.

A few lockback knives I have, varying brands and sizes, have a bit of blade play when closed, but it shouldn't be excessive to the point where it'll move far enough to touch the liners. I'd go with the other suggestions to either swap it out with you dealer, or back to Buck for a look see.

If you're like me, it'll just always bug you otherwise. Lol.

thank both doc and tah. since it is easy, I will go for an exchange. if the replacement has the same wobbling, I will keep it. after all, as some folks said it may not affect the function and it is a very inexpensive knife.

My 112 is a bit loose when shut but tight when open I never bothered about sending it back because I didnt care. I assumed it did not matter. Does it from a safety or durability point?

My 2013 retail 110 is rock solid. There is no blade play in any direction, whether open or closed.

I sent my 501 back because when closed it was loose enough to rattle and it could actually drop open about 1/4" when closed, creating a safety hazard in the pocket. If it just moved a sixteenth of an inch side-to-side when closed it might not have been such an issue, but a pocket carry has to stay shut in the pocket.

A lock back should not be so loose. You expect that from a liner lock sometimes, but never for a lock back. Just the spring tension alone should keep the knife closed and wobble free. There seems to be a pivot issue and, maybe, a spring issue, as well.

Just a quick update. Received the exchange. While a bit movement of the blade in closed position can still be felt when being nudged, it does not rattle when the knife is shaken. So overall it is better and a keeper.
