Buck 110 wont "snap" shut

I just picked it up yesterday. It's definitely 100% geniune; however, being a lock back, shouldn't it sort of "snap shut" when it's 90% closed? It doesn't. It just have to close it all the way manually. This is no problem to me AT ALL and not worth returning UNLESS this could cause a problem. I heard from someone that theirs was like this and eventually the blade wouldn't close all the way and the tip just barely pokes out. Will the "snap" appear after I break the blade in? It is VERY stiff. I never had a 110 so I can't determine if this stiffness is normal? I have to really press the lock hard and force that blade shut. It's a beautiful knife otherwise and I couldn't be happier as far as everything else goes! Can't wait to use it!!!!!!!

Yes, Buck representative has stated that grit can settle into the pivots and such during the finishing process........... Clean the knife as directed........ I can't remember the procedure.

Try cleaning and oiling it. If this doesn't work then return it for a replacement. If you got it at a large retailer just take it back for a replacement.

CNY process for cleaning out the pivot of a folder is the flush it out with either wd-40 or mineral and compressed air.
This should help the knife break in a bit faster.

As noted by others it probably just needs cleaned. Open the blade and run the pivot area under hot tap water then apply dish soap to the pivot and work the blade open and closed. Rinse well under hot tap water, blow all the water out with compressed air or just spray it with WD40 then lubricate with a product of your choosing.

If this doesn't work it's possible the pivot area was pressed too hard during assembly. If that's the case someone might have a technique to loosen it up but I'd probably send it back to Buck. Lastly congratulations on your first 110. I think you'll be able to get it sorted out and start enjoying it in short order.

Thank you everyone!!! :) I'm loving this thing, the weight adds something special to it. I dislike to carry heavy knives but it's somehow light enough and works in its favor.

I had it happen with a 110. Tried cleaning and it didn't work. Called Buck and they told me to send it in. Something to do with needing to tweak the spring or something.

Since I got it back from Buck, it snaps perfectly.

Thank you everyone! Sorry its been a while but I figured I may as well update you since you helped me fix it. :D Just used wd-40 and an air compressor, opened and closed the knife a few times and within the first 30 seconds it had that normal healthy lock back snap.
