Was thinking of lighting up a 110 . Would it be safe to thin the bolsters down say 1/32" off each side without affecting the pins in anyway other then making them shorter or will that make them fall out ?

There is a member with the user name of seals or Seals Custom Knives that has performed this work.He may be the person to ask about the viability of such a modification.

DeSotoSky provided some great information in the attached thread.

I slimmed-down a 110 for myself, had to completely disassemble the knife and grind down the bolsters and scales then reassemble and re-pin. Not a project to do if you don't have the right equipment, it is a lot of work but worth the effort. I'm thinking about thinning down a 112 for a future project. The picture below shows a standard 110 next to the slim 110. According to my postage scale the slimmed 110 weighs 5.3 oz. and a standard 110 weighs in over 7oz.

Scott, are the scales on current 110's glued on or just pinned? Asked another way, if you shave off the pin heads, do the handles fall off?

Thank you to All for your help . Scott looks good , can I ask where you got the rocker pin ? Thanks to you Desoto for the thread , moving the pin side to side is a good idea .

I don't think you answered his question. Plus, the one in the photo has a lot more than 1/32" removed. DM

To answer Sky's question, all the 110's, 112's & 500 series I have played with only had the covers pinned on.

that's really cool, I think I would use my 110 a lot more if I had the ability to do something like that. nice work!
