I've got a Buck 110 that is about 30 years old with the original leather sheath in like new condition.I purchased it long ago for the purpose of field dressing deer. It's been in my drawer for years and I forgot all about it.
I never really was into knives until recently.Which led me to this site where I have been browsing and posting a little.Sometimes someone here will make a comment or a comparison about the Buck 110.So I dug it out and got to wondering what king of steel was used in the blade. All it says on the blade is "Buck 110 USA".
Any ideas?

If it's that old, it has a much better steel than is currently being used. I don't know if it was a move from 440C down to A or B, or a shift from 440 to 420, but the steel was downgraded over the years.

More than likely, that blade is 440C. Before you use it, you might want to check with some Buck collectors. Some of these old Bucks are pretty collectable.

Might be 425 stainless, used on many older Bucks. Check out the Buck Forum, they will know. :D

Freedom1, You might re-post this in the Buck knives section of these forums. From what you've
said so far it sounds like you have a very valuable collectors piece. You also have a VERY good
knife with 440c in the blade. A pain the sharpen but holds that edge well into forever.
