Not long ago, one could find the classic Buck 110 for a range of prices at major retailers. Today, no matter where you look, it's priced at $64.99 .... everywhere. Is Buck forcing this price policy with its retailers?

I think it is likely the shift of the retail space away from physical stores (Wal-Mart) and more to on-line (Amazon, who Wal-Mart is trying to copy). Wal-Mart used to have their special Buck 110 SKUs for about $35 - usually plastic clamshell packaging and a nylon belt case, and so that price probably put price pressure on everyone. Back then, if you were a manufacturer, you sold to Wal-Mart at whatever price Wal-Mart dictated.

Now, I don't think Wal-Mart has that kind of pricing power with all of the makers and they probably are not focusing on that market so much (physical store sporting goods) so they are no longer selling a special SKU for the knife.

I don't know that for a fact, but that is my guess.

I just bought the 120th Anniversary tin with coin from Wally World a couple weeks ago for $35. Looks like its back to $65 now.

Im not impressed. The blade has side to side play and if you hold the knife up to a light looking at the spine side there are gaps between the lock bar and liners. The pins holding it together needs to be peened tighter.

Im going to send it back to Buck and see if they fix it.

Inflation plays a part, too. $35.95 at Wallys is about what a 110 sold for in the mid 1970's.
Surprising they could hold the price for so long.

It is normal for a gap between the lockbar and liners.
A little blade wiggle/not perfectly centered blade when closed is also normal.
My 50th Anniversary 110 had a floppy blade when closed. It could hit the liners. I used a pair of pliers and a triple folded rag (to prevent scratching) to fix it.
Pivot end only. No more wiggle, and the blade is centered.
The pivot pin is proud on one side by about 0.003~0.004 inch now. "Someday" I might get around to sending it to Buck to have that pin made flush under warranty. I have six other brass and wood 110's to use, so it isn't a high priority. 😁

I have blade side to side wiggle when open and locked. Close the blade and I have more wiggle side to side play even touching one liner.

I have thought about giving it a hit with a hammer to tighten it up but I think I will send it in instead. My luck I would tighten it up to much and be hard to open.

Point being I guess, is it should have been done right before being sold.

True.
Not making excuses, but considering how many thousands of 110's they make a day, it isn't really surprising a few slip past QC with a bit of blade play, or other issue.
At least their warranty is unbeatable, and for as long as there is a Buck Knife company, the warranty is never ending.
Your 6th or more great grandkid can send it in for a warranty repair, no questions asked. Same for the one you found magnet fishing, or that has been lost in the woods for a generation. 😇

Tap and test, tap and test. Don’t just whack it hard. Buck will fix it, but I bet you could do it yourself if you take it easy.
