buck 110

I don't know for certain, but when I sharpened my PCKS 110 (BG42) on my Sharpmaker's 40degree setting (20deg/side?), it took a minimum of strokes to make it razor sharp again. This was after I had used it lightly over a few weeks and rather harshly while on a weekend camping trip. I imagine it's fairly close to 20degrees, if not 20 exactly.

The newer Buck 110s have what is called Edge 2000. These Edge 2000 blades have an included angle of between 26 and 32 degrees. In other works..... friggin' scary sharp!!!!

Wow, I wouldn't expect that kind of edge on what's supposed to be a hard workin' knife. I'm surprised the Sharpmaker did so well on it with it's 20degree angle. Either way, that was one sharp knife out of the box.

Yah. There have been a few negative opinions about Edge 2000 in terms of impact resistance. I haven't had any problems myself though, and love the new thinner edge. The newer Bucks are like scalpels. They have some of the sharpest factory edges I've come across. Even sharper than my Spydies. I love Edge 2000!!!!!

Perfect time for this thread, I was just about to sharpen my PCKS buck 110 W/ BG-42. It has seen a crapload of use and is still shaving sharp but there are a few small dmaged area's of the edge that need to be taken out, i was going to sharpen it freehand but if its that close to the 30 degree angle on the sharpmaker i will use it, Thanks for the info guys!

BTW i agree with buzzbait i love the sharpness of this knife, i dont care much about its impact resistance, thats what my BK&T PM has to worry about :)

thanks guys, I also found that the new 110s are way sharper than the ones I had growing up. the edge is holding up quite well but just was curious for the future.

I recently sent in an early Buck 124 fixed blade (440C) for the edge 2000 treatment. They re-contoured and sharpenned the blade, as well as polishing the entire knife for 5 bucks. Came back looking like new and sharp as anything I own. Also, they replaced the blade on my older 110 with BG-42 for just $30.
