I have a 110 and it has a distintictive smell too it, has anyone else noticed this? and if so does anyone know what it is

I thought i was the only one who sniffed the 110. :p

I don't know exactly what makes it smell, bit it's not a bad smell. Smells like...knife.

Geeze... now you made me 'sniff' my 110 and I don't smell anything! Could be my 'sniffer' ain't working properly. Maybe it's your sheath that smells? Do you wear your sheath outside or inside your pants? :D

I frequently enjoy smelling my 112, and my Cabela's 110 for that matter. Yeah, I think something with the leather sheath in combination with the Tuff Cloth I run over it.

my 110 had that smell even before it was put in the sheath, i think its like some kind of oil or coating maybe

Does Buck wax or oil 110 handles, after sanding and before packaging? What brand/kind of oil or wax does Buck use for that purpose? Are the brass bolsters buffed with Brasso? Answers to those questions may bring you to the origin of a smell.

To me, it does have a slight oily smell. IIRC, my 110's and 112 did have some sort of lubricant in the pivot area when I got mine. My Buck 55 didn't, though.

You bastard! Coffee all over the damned Monitor and Keyboard

i too thought that i was the only one to smell my 110, but i have also noticed and wondered about this smell. Oddly enough, it never seems to go away, but gets stronger after its been washed, at least that is the way it seems to me.

...Oh my Good Lord...Now there's gonna be thousands of 110 owners sniff'in they're brass n' steel knives...LMAO...hmmmmmmm...seems that there smell yer talkin' about wore off of my "older than dirt" 110's but the newer ones do seem to carry a bit of a bouquet...sniff, sniff, sniff...LOL...

It's probably the copper in the brass bolsters I would think. Copper smells, especially when you hold it in your hands. I'm not sure why, maybe it is the process of oxidation.

OK, the idea was a flop, but Chuck Buck had a good idea anyway. What you have there is a Buck 110PU. It was not highly publicized at the time, and only produced in a limited run as a test project. In a cooperative effort with Tinks, the knife was treated with "doe in heat" and lubed with a derivitive of whitetail deer tarsal gland oils. The knives worked ok, but management caught factory workers sniffing them and, it was surmised, knife owners all over the land would follow suit. Fearing a recall by the Food and Drug Administration, production was halted. A companion model was planned using fish oil, but it was nixed when the first bottle spilled on the production line, causing an extended lunch break for the employees. Not long afterward, the factory moved.

This from the untold chronicle of Buck Knives. That's my Buck story and I'm sticking to it! :D
