Ok I love the 110 but why does the blade have so much horizontal play. It just gets annoying when you buy a new 110 then spend an hour fixing it. This is not the first one ive had to tighten and went to all the walmarts and osh in sanjose and didnt find one that isnt loose even my cabellas with sv30 is loose.

Hmm...that's kinda odd. My 110 had zero blade play when i got it. Maybe you just have bad luck.

Mine as well has a little horizontal play...Not too much to bother me a ton though.

I have about 22 Buck 110s, and NONE have any blade play....12 where from the Walmart tins.....can't understand how you would experience blade play like that ????

I dont know why but ALL not some of the ones ive seen have had this problem if someone who lives in san jose could confirm this by going to walmart or an oarchard supply. I agree its a hassle to send it in I just fix them myself.

Only one I have with blade play is a custom with nickel bolsters

(I'm told the tolerances are a little bigger with the nickel).

And it's so slight I don't even think about it.

I own maybe 10 Buck 110s or more. I've actually lost count.

I guess you're just unlucky.

Send it back to Buck.
I've never had a 110 with horizontal play while locked open.

Good luck,
Allen.

I think whats happing is that when people pick out a knife they choose the best ones and leave the others behind and mabyee iam getting the leftovers. by the way the boxes say that they are 2003-2004 modle years.

Out of interest - how do you fix the blade play yourself?

You can tap on the pivot area with a hammer or large rock, or put it into a vice. Best not to overdo it though, it's a lot more work getting it apart. I'd know.

Sometimes I wonder what people think "blade play" is. So many people say "I have owned [insert large number here] [insert knife model here] and none have had bladeplay." when in reality, that model almost always have some blade play.

Do you think Buck's tolerances are .000?

Every 110 I have handled had some bladeplay. Not so much that it matters, but they sure don't feel like fixed blades.

If you think none of your 110s have bladeplay, you might want to open them, grab the handle, grab the blade, and wiggle it. It will move. It's sort of the nature of the beast.

I have handled very, very few folders with no blade play. Maybe I have higher standards than most. Makes me sound like a jerk, but it must be true because I notice blade play in knives that some people say have none.

To test for blade play, open it and placed the blade tip down (gently) on a yielding surface like cardoboard or wood (not glass) and give it a wiggle. You'll be able to detect any blade play.

Me too.
...and, although it doesn't diminish my enjoyment of my 110 (it's in my pocket as I type), mine also has a tiny bit of horizontal play.
Funny, though, that the Emerson in my other pocket has none (I've adjusted the pivot to just the right spot), nor does the Benchmade Ares I sharpened last night.
In my experience, ALL knives without adjustable pivots *will* exhibit some blade play. It's just a question of "how much?" Even some with adjustable pivots do so, but I'm careful.
YMMV.

I've had a lot of knives without adjustable pivots in my hands with no horizontal play. Endura 3, SAK's, Opinels (Locking and non-locking) and various slipjoints.

Again, I do not question you are telling the truth, I question that "no play" to you is "no play" to me.
