Hi - 1st post here and looking for advice. My first EDC I ever carried back in the 70's was a Buck knife in leather carry holster. I lost it over the years ans started carryin other brands and never went back to Buck.

I'm looking for something similar with holster. I looked at model 110's at Wal-Mart and came away with some questions. Are they a cheap knock off like many "box store" products or are they genuine made in USA?

Last, they appear to be nicely radiused around the edges and for the life of me, my memory recalls that my vintage Buck was a hair larger and didn't have the smooth radiused corners on the ends. I may have forgotten - I'm not sure. (an aside observation and not important).

Really, question #1 is what I'm looking for, a made in USA Buck 110. It's use is for a son-in-law who broke his tip off digging at something?? I don't want to drop a ton of $$ but I don't want a junky version either, if that makes sense.

Replies appreciated.

Hi cziv -

Yes - the 110's are all made in the USA.

They do have more radius to the edges than the older variety.

I love old 110's (and new ones), as I also carried one in high school days, but I also love the 112, which is slightly smaller and lighter - but otherwise looks very similar.

You can see a lot of 110's on the 'bay to get an idea of the varieties that are available.

Also check out the Buck web site where you can make a custom 110 to your specification.

best regards -

Thanks for your eply mqqn. I'll pick one up at a local store for him then if they're all the USA variety. I'm not having a custom made for a kid that snaps the tips off of his knives. I just reprofiled a Ka-bar for him that had a broken tip and now he brought his Buck 110 over with the same thing (broken tip) - only worse.

Send your broken tipped Buck 110 knife back to Buck in Post Falls and they will fix it for free (less your shipping cost). They are a genuine made in USA product with a genuine LIFETIME unconditional warranty. You will be hard pressed to find a company with a better warranty!

Seems to me you should instruct you son-in-law what a knife is for and not for...or get him a crow bar instead....:p Good luck

The really big box store 110's probably have a cordura type sheath. Your other stores will most likely have leather sheaths.

I would also send the broken one in for repair. Like the other person said, once.

Call Buck they are very easy to work with.

All 110's are made in USA. But I have definitely heard from members here that there are some quality/fit-and-finish differences between different 110's, even though they're all the same model and all are made in the USA. I've read some complaints about the fit and finish on the Wal-Mart $35 specials. On the other side of the spectrum, the Buck custom shop knives seem to be universally praised for their flawless fit and finish. Then again, you're paying over $100 for one of those...

Thanks to all of you guys, I never knew that Buck would fix what I consider to be an abused blade. I'll call them. The fact that he's overseas in the Army might soften their hearts a little.

Magnaminous - that's why I posted. I looked up Buck 110's on Google and ran into a whole bunch of offerings and forum discussion hits that had different numbers on the boxes and such. I thought "how can this be?" with all of them having a Buck 110 inside? Must be what you're alluding to above and yes I picked up the $37.99 cordura sheathed model at Walmart and it looked good ut I didn't buy it before checking here.

Much appreciation! :)

I can't say enough good things about Buck! You can buy cheaper and you can buy more expensive knives, but Buck has the best value for the money. Their warranty can't be beat. My son had his Buck knife burned up in a fire and we sent the burnt pieces into Buck to see if they could be repaired and I was willing to pay for repair or replacement. They sent him a brand new knife without even a question! My 110 from the 70s still looks and cuts like new after cutting up dozens of deer and other hunting uses.
