Hi

I have an aluminium handle folder with a knife blade like a buck hunter folder and the blade says *111**. The aluminium has a lot of floral engraving. What is the steel used - it was bought sometime before 1984 in a sale. Looks like it was on the shelf for quite a while.

I have a woodsman bought during that period that says 102. What steel is used to make this knife.

Thanks very much in advance.

From information posted in other threads.- Buck´s standard steel was 425M from about 1981 to about 1993, before that it was 440C and after that it´s been 420HC.

The years of change are aproximate since naturaly they wouldn´t run out of blades in some steel and start making them all in a new one at the exact same date so there may be blades in different steels from the same year.

Hi,

I read from the Buck website that the *111** uses 440C, if there are 4 dots i.e. **111** then it uses 425M. After 1986 there are other indicators telling the exact year of manufacture.

What about the 102 Woodsman, there are no dots, so it is pre 1986. Can we tell anything else? Any other identification marks?

Thanks very much in advance.
