I would like to know if the 111 was ever available through the Custom Shop?
More specifically, was it ever offered with BG-42 or S30V blades?

Thanks, L

The 111 was never offered through the Custom Shop; however, there were several limited editions made.

Did any of these LEs involve premium steels like, say, the BG-42 black G-10 110?

Not to the best of my knowledge.

Edit: But it would be an easy task to take a 110 upgraded steel blade (BG-42 or S30V) and install in a 111.

again here i go with my inter thoughts as a 2 centivos worth
this is not hard data so consider it jest word of mouth..and hearsay
custom shop 111's were never available to order from the custom shop
((which is not a shop)) now that said
custom shop knives at one time were being made in the real repair shop
because there was to many for the custom assumbility line which made the
LE's that were ordered by the 2 to 4 hundrids
that said ...
also there were custom 111's made by/for employees
also there were custom 111's made for the club members only
and for awards at the blade show in atlanta..
so while the general public could never order one
it is know that there are some out there
some how i don't think you will find those that have them are
the least incline to sell them...
i have reason to belive that there are some supper steel 111's out there
but i have not been able to acquire any as yet..

above is smooth Buffalo horn one of only two know of but might be more

top is giraffe bone middle is snake wood these two are the only ones i know of in this material the bottom is burl ironwood and there may be more then one

Awesome. I am not sure about the blade swap thing, though.
BTW, that chip flint 111 looks terrific!
