I'm not a close Buck company watcher. No idea if this foretells possible production or not but there are Buck 112 drop point prototypes with blades from the 450 available from at least one Idaho based seller. For those of you who know Buck better than I do, does this mean there is hope for this making it to production?

My Ecolite 112/442 has shot to the top of my EDC pile. Has the fantastic feel of the 112 frame with a beautiful looking and more useful (for EDC use) drop point. The brass & wood version is even more beautiful looking in the pictures.

I entered "buck 112 450 drop point prototype" in my search engine and was able to find this...

In one of my searches this knife was referred to as an "LE Custom Buildout". Maybe the seller ordered them? Maybe they are "lunchbox" knives?

I hate to rain on your parade, but that's not a prototype and was covered fairly well in this recent thread. They were produced for Seeland International.

Here's the e-mail from Joe Houser that I mentioned :

Hello Dave,

Sorry for the big delay. I did find out that we made about 1800 of these for a company called: SEELAND INTERNATIONAL

I hope this helps to fill in some of the holes with this model. It means it was not actually a build out and hence the SP number. SP does stand for Special Project…most of the time.

Take care,

David, yeah, I had totally forgotten about that old thread from June. The thing that tripped me up is that a Idaho based seller was/is listing them as "prototypes".

Gunda, I have a similar blade in a rebladed Ecolite 112 frame and despite all my traditional bias towards my classic 112, this drop point has totally won me over for daily use. It's just marvelous.

He also told oregon from the forum here that contacted him (Jacob, the Idaho based seller), that they had Rosewood scales. He seems to have had no idea what he was actually selling.
