Got an old 2 dot 112 last week and the blade is sharpened to a knub. I've heard that a 482 blade will drop right in. Has anyone done this. Any pointers? I've seen a picture of one that was done but I'm just curious if anyone else has attempted this swap out

A nother option would be to send it in to Buck and have a new blade installed. Last knife they did this for me was a 10$ charge, they cover the return shipping.

But if you are bound and determined, here is a 112 with a 442 blade.

Be warned, this can be trickyer than it appears, and once you start you are on your own! I personally don't know if the 482 blade is a fit though.

This thread is where I started out:

Good Luck!

Well, I've already taken the 112 apart to clean it up and get it ready. There is a guy on YouTube that did this with the 482 and it looks awesome. I like to do my own tinkering so hopefully this will work out. I like yours with the 442 and I thought about that route but the 482 blade looks good to me. And it has thumb studs already on it. In this other thread it says you tap a divot into the pin holes. Is that what you did with yours? And then peen the pin a little to fill the edge? Or do you just tap a new one in?

I posted this in the maintenance section but I just wanted to put this in the buck section. I finished the hybrid knife this afternoon.

I like the normal drop point 442 better than the 482, but that 482 sure looks better on the 112 than the clip point.
Now it just needs a good polishing.

Clever idea on the scale pins! If the blade pivot doesn't hold up, and some play develops, replacing that pin with some 1/8" brass rod and peening will fix that. I get mine at a hobby store. Did you save the old bushing?
Good job! It's fun giving those old beaters a new lease on life:thumbup:

Thanks guys. Yeah i have the original blade and bushing in a ziplock bag. It doesn't any blade play when locked up either. I may go to True Value Hardware at some point and get some 1/8th inh brass rod and repin it but it works fine now. Unfortunately I put a nasty gash in my thumb from my 110fg last night. I used a cable tie to hold the lock bar down on the 112 while I was installing the blade. After I got it in, I used the 110 to cut the cable tie and jabbed my finger. My wife told me I'm not allowed to give her anymore grief about her being careless with knives. Hahaha

Thanks! I ended up sanding it down more and polishing everything. So now the pins sit flush with the scales but everything is shiny and smooth. I bought another two dot 112 at an antique mall for $5 but the blade was worn down more than the first one. I decided to let the factory fix that one for me. They did a great job, brand new blade and everything. I mounted a lefty thumb stud on it and put a hair popping edge. I think I'm up to 12 buck knives now. It addicting
