I have been wanting a 112 auto for awhile now. Every time I find one in a shop it has a gap between the brass and lock bar with light visible through it. Is this normal? Are the autos made more gappy on purpose?

thanks

I have one on my belt now.
Works fine.
OMG there's light shining thru between the brass and the lock bar.:eek::eek::eek:

I don't care either.

...Where did you find one in stock? I waited over 10 weeks for my newest 112 ebony?

Seriously. They are fine. I have 4 auto's and everyone of them are very functional and reliable. .......I never noticed the light thing.
Stop holding it up and looking thru it is my solution.
Buck makes a great product, that works.

Do all 4 have a little gapage? Maybe that’s the way they have to make them for the action.

Believe it or not there has to be an air gap or it would be binding up. I would rather have air gap than a tight binding action that could freeze up. Also there’s a lot of so called imperfections or flaws in the chatter in blade/knife forums that have nothing to do with the performance or safety of knives. OCD seems to be prevalent in these times and production knives are very affordable and very useful. Very few get past QC and have problems but if it does Bucks warranty is top notch!

Well said Les.
I tire of the OCD impaired picking apart perfectly fine products.
I agree you wouldn't want the knife "tight" as it could impair the action.

As per the OP's question, yes they all have a degree of gap between the bolsters and the lock bar.
Buy with confidence. Buck WILL take care of any product related problems.

They are a sweet knife. I can see why you would want one. The action gets better with use and a good oiling.
If you found a dealer with in stock knives you can handle, I'd check for excess blade movement if anything. All mine have some.
Just check that you not getting one that is excessive. Check a couple to compare.

And stop reading reviews from self proclaimed experts that "know" more than the manufacturers.

Here's a thought.
Car / tractor engines. The old ones had big, loose tolerances and will run forever.
Where as new ones with tight tolerances may perform well, but don't last.

I had one of the very first one's but gifted it to my son Richard..I'm shooting for a Custom when I can find one!
