Hi, i've been a bladeforums lurker for quite awhile, but i finally have a question. I've always loved my 112, but it's just a little too heavy for me to comfortably pocket carry. So I finally purchased a 112 ecolite paperstone and love it! But it came with a little blade play in the open position (up and down and back and forth). I tried gently tapping the pivot with a hammer, with no luck. Is there anything else I can try short of sending it back to Buck? It's not a big deal, but I'd like to fix it if i could.
I also have another question. I've been using it for yard work, and it now has a gritty feel when i open it (i assume dirt in the pivot). Is there a good way to clean this out?
Thanks in advance

Hi radleyb,

Welcome to the Buck forums!

Can't help with the loose blade. For the grit, run it under the faucet and move the blade up and down, follow this with air blow dry, then hit with light oil.

I've handled a few of these, and a very slight amount of play when locked seems to be par for the course...
Like jb4570 said, you can wash it out...I use a bit of liquid detergent(dawn) strait in the well, and work the knife open and closed under running water, then fill it up with WD40 and open and close, then blow it out with compressed air...
Good luck, and welcome the the Buck forum!

Thanks for the replies. It's just a little bladeplay, so I guess I won't worry about it. I don't know what it is with my 112s, if its the blade geometry, the grind or what, but i love the way they cut. I've been using them to make tent stakes, tomato stakes, and even a little whittling. The way they go through wood just really impresses me. IMHO, they hold their own, if not outperform blades 4-5 times the price.
Love my Bucks!
