Forgive me everyone for starting a thread on this, but I did a search on the topic and the most recent thread I could find was from early 2002.

I have just ordered a 110 in BG42 and I've not been this excited about a knife ever (even CRK Sebenza)...and that's the truth. But what would excite me even more would be the 112 in BG42...Is it still possible to buy a new 112 in BG? I can't find it on the Buck webpage.

Generally, I prefer smaller knives to larger ones so the 112 would make me very happy. The 110 is to ride on my belt while woods walking.

Thanks for your input,
:)

Plowboy,

112's in BG42 are not in production any more. Not many 112's were made with that steel...keep looking as they do pop up for sale every now and then. It will cost $$$$ low supply high demand!

Does anyone know if they have done anything other then the 110 and 193
at the Buck Custom Shop?

Buck should do them in the custom shop... would be a huge hit I think

I think with the many new laws governing blade lengths, the 112 in the custom shop would likely be a great hit.

I definitely would be placing an order...probably for more than one.

Thanks everyone ... I just didn't know if the BG42 steel was still used in the 112.

:)

I just had a thought and I hope I'm not out of place (being new the the Buck Forum), but do you think Mr. Buck would consider bringing the 112 into the custom shop. I have been a Spyderco user for quite a while and Mr. Glesser does do sprint runs if enough Spyder lovers ask for them.

Again, I truly hope I'm not out of line here....just asking. What do you think?

:)

Buck does do limited runs on just about any knife you might want...for Cabela's, Bass Pro, AG Russell, any big order; I think Joe once said 250 knives minimum order...Buck does this fairly regularly for the BCCI, annual knives, fund raisers, special commemoratives, etc...upgraded blade steel, unique scale material, Nickel Silver bolsters...etching, engraving, laser holes (ugh!)...

It's not enough to ask for them...Put your money down... :)

250 x $100 apiece = $25,000...Mortgage your house or sell your car...Get your order in now, they should be ready by October...I'll take one... ;)

A year or two ago I sent in my 112 for the BG42 updgrade. In one word: Awesome.

If you can find one for sale on this forum or ebay be sure to get it. You won't be disappointed. I find the BG42 updgrade to be so much easier to sharpen than the steel that came with my ~20 year old 112.

I carry and enjoy a variety of knives (especially SAKs), but the 112 is very special to me.

Thanks chickentrax and Cool_Hand_Luke.

Chickentrax, forgive me for being a bit dense, but are you saying there are some 112 in the pipeline with BG42? If so, do I need to be a member of the collector's club? I'll go to the webpage to check out what I can. Give me a holler back, please.
:)

You could count me in on one, the 112 is the perfect carry knife IMO. FG NS bolsters BG-42 112 "OH YEAH"

I can be counted on for at least two if the 112 is ever done in BG again.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and advice.

cool_hand_luke was the one who mentioned BG-42 112's...I've not heard anything about them...

The BCCI did a drop-point 112FG last year with Sambar Stag scales and the blade in S30V, bolsters in Nickel Silver. I don't know what the BCCI hierarchy has in store for this year, or if BG-42 is even available again from Buck. But you can always make a suggestion to John Foresman; he was soliciting opinions in the last newsletter. :)

A couple years before Buck moved to Idaho I got the shop to do a special run of BG-42 112 blades. If I remember right, it was less than 200 blades. We used them for blade swaps only. YOu could send in your 112, plus $35, and we would switch out the blades. The blades are all gone now, and so is the blade swap service. :(
If you do find one of these out there for sale, the blade will be laser etched BG-42 on the oposite side of the stamp.

I've heard that a clever knifesmith can re-profile a 110 BG-42 blade to 112 specs, and mount it in a 112...I heard this from a usually reliable source [coff, 334dave, coff]...

Joe,I was one of the lucky individuals who got one of the BG42-112's.if I'm not mistaken I got a complete new knife with BG42 steel directly from you.
I should have bought more.

I was able to buy two 112 with BG42 steel a couple of years ago in tins from a seller on another forum.I gave them too my sons for Christmas.my older son that works in the coal industry began to carry his immediately. my youngest son has never used his.

Thanks for rubbing it in Tom....that's like offering a thirsty man a picture of a frosty mug of beer. ; )

Sorry Chickentrax for misquoting you. The BCCI 112FG with S30V sounds like it was a great one. I'm going to check out the BCCI.

BG-42 is available on the 110 at the custom shop.

Great looking knives, honesttom.

Yep. Exactly what I did. Hindsight says I should have bought a few extra 112's and sent them to Buck for a $35 BG42 updgrade. It was really a great deal!
