They just put out the Buck Christmas knives or part of it at my local store. This year the 112 comes in a very nice little gift box. Not a bad deal for $25.

I've owned 110's for years, so I've been in the market for a 112. I grabbed up one of the 112 tins from Walmart yesterday. I'm very impressed. I like the fact that the tins are displayed open so you can see the woodgrain pattern and finish of the whole stack and then cut one from the heard.

Wish there was a Walmart in the UK and I would get one at that price... but over here they are almost $75

Upgrade? Sure. I probably do as many 112s in any given year for guys that love them as 110s.

Just did a beautiful 110 today for a guy. BG42 blade and the custom shop did an excellent job on the checkered wood handles. Its perhaps the nicest 110 I've ever had the opportunity to handle. The wood checkering was so nice I couldn't bring myself to make a clip long enough to mar it up so I made the all time record small low rider to date just for this knife. 1.25" total length. It looks like you have a pen in your pocket when you carry it rather than a full size folder. This pic was taken before I anodized the clip a gold/brass color to match up to the bolsters. I mailed it out and forgot to take a shot of that sorry.

I've modified both the older ones and the newer ones of both models with thumb studs and/or pocket clips for folks as well as my own. The older ones from the 70s open much easier one handed and are super nice for the thumb studs but the newer ones are not unmanageable, you just won't be sitting around flipping them open and closed a whole lot but only when you need the blade. Otherwise its a clean and nice addition to an already great knife.

I often wondered why it was that I loved the Emerson CQC12 and 13 so much. Today it dawned on me that its because they are basically the same blade shape as this 110 and 112 that I grew up with.

Some of the mods to others are posted here. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=374927

...Sam...We're all waiting for that to be a possibility again...It happened a few years back but that was a one time thing...Joe worked his butt off to make that happen. Right now they are up to their ears in 110 blade upgrades and they've run into a material shortage refarding BG-42 and S30V already...We'll just have to wait I guess...

Ah, my bad. I thought you were speaking to me directly and I call the mods I do upgrades so I simply misread.

That would be nice though. I have to say the BG42 blade that came on that knife was one of the nicest sharpest edges I've ever seen on a Buck of any model. Smooth as silk opening too. I am pretty sure there is a bushing in the pivot of that one like on the 560s because it was lots smoother than my own regular Buck knives.

so no one is thinking about donating a NS112 for a lonely uk guy then??? :)

Well Mav...I would've sent ya the spare I got...but then I would probably end up on some ATF sheet for shipping weapons overseas...given your strict laws and my association with, ah, you guys.
So, my 112NS will be wrapped in fish wrap and mailed to sunny Florida for a facelift and retirement there.

The bummer is, the one I have left (NS) doesn't close all the way and that bugs the sheet outta me. But the one going to the sun will be in Z Doctor's guten care.
WienerInsane...

...LOL...Yep...It'll be getting a facelift alright. But outa habit I'll probably start on the "BUTT" end ...   :p

...Did I say "refarded' ???...LMAO...I heard through a fella who makes working (hunters) knives up in Spring Hill which is just north of me that there is a "shortage" of higher grade steels for blades due to transport costs the last year or so. It's hitting him now. My impression is that this problem has to be a factor in the large buyers ability to purchase material. If that's the case...Buck has to be affected similiarly...

oh no that means that sence you found out and posted it here there will be a run on any spechal steels on the bay watch!
watch prices go up and up...
 good for some , :thumbdn: bad for others
