Looking for an all purpose but smaller fixed blade knife. Looking online at the 113 but would that be considered a(just) skinning knife. I like the handle on it . Dont really like the black handles on the classics. Plus they are a little bigger than I would want. Any suggestions or input would be appreciated .

Thanks Kenny

IMO there is no such thing as an "all purpose" knife. If there was I would not have a drawer full of knifes

Well I think my 110 has been a great all purpose knife foe 30 years . gutting deer and skinning, cleaning fish, camping general use no problem. No its not a fish fillet knife but it got buy

You can get most of the Buck line in handles which are not black, however, may take some looking since they are not std production all the time. Cherry and brass seem rather common with some looking.

The 113 is a great knife, bit small for my hand though, that said the grind on it may be a bit thin if you are going to use it hard since it's meant more as a skinner.

They are priced right and well worth giving it a try.

I would suggest getting a 119 for a truly all-purpose knife. The standard 119 does come with phenolic handles, which you specifically said you don't like, but you can get a wood-handled one for a bit more money. The 119 will handle pretty much any job you throw at it, from using it as a kitchen knife to using it around the camp to hunting and whatever else you can think of. It is much stronger than the 113 (the 113 actually has a pretty weak blade, due to its grind)

Kenny, if a design works for your purpose then it's suitable, regardless of what the maker labels it. I'd suggest you get a Buck 113 and try it out; only by using various blade patterns will you know for sure if it does what you want it to do. One thing is for sure, it is made with the same quality as the other Buck's (including the 110 you already have). OH

My 16 yo daughter bought a 113 this summer. They are a nice little knife.Depending on what you consider an all purpose knife will factor in to what you need. Imho a 113 could do a large percentage of what most my knife needs would be.

I'm with OH on this.

Commenting on what will or won't work for every day use is fraught with peril. Your every day use may be different from mine. It's like commenting on preferences for shoes or cars.

This said, I have a fixed blade about the same size and dimension of the 112 and haven't been able to grove to it for all purpose use. I prefer a longer blade and less tall blade (edge to spine). If I were to get an all 'rounder fixed blade from Buck, I would be looking at the 103 or new Selkirk, but again, that's closer to my preferences and your preferences are all that matter.
