Hi folks!
I am really enjoying my new Buck 113.

I noticed my knife would at times get stuck when inserting it in the sheath depending on the angle.

Looking inside the sheath revealed a rather wide/tall welt.

The welt shows cuts from attempting to sheath the knife perfectly straight.
(after a couple days of using it a few little pieces of leather from the welt came out)

If I tilt the blade slightly towards the inside/belt loop side there are no issues as the blade has room in between the welt and the inner “wall” of the sheath.

I am wondering if this is common with some of Bucks sheaths or perhaps the welt was not trimmed properly on mine during manufacture.

Mine was like that, I pulled the plastic insert which I didn't feel it needed and that solved the issue.
I don't have the sheath anymore though because I'm a lefty and had to make something else for mine.

My 113 sheath is also similar. Gotta angle it in just right. I looked at the sheath for my 101 and it is a much cleaner build. Bad batch of sheaths?

I think the more that welt gets cut, the easier it will be to sheath the knife.
I wouldn't worry about it.

I once cut thru the front of a leather sheath that didn't have a plastic insert, and cut my hand in the process.
That insert helps safeguard that from happening.
Probably less of a concern with a drop point blade but still.....

Nice knife. The 113 is a great little knife.
👍

Thanks, it sounds like the sheaths are build this way which I do find rather odd.
When taking the plastic insert out the knife becomes a bit loose in mine and falls out much easier.
There is also the issue of cutting the sheath by accident, or worse as it was pointed out below so I left the insert in place.

I would love to make a sheath for it like you have done.
Incidentally, just a couple weeks ago when visiting family for the holidays I bought a piece of vegetable tanned leather in 7 to 8 oz and got some very basic leather working tools as well.
I am in the "watching how to make leather knife sheaths tutorials videos on You Tube" phase right now LOL

Thanks, it looks like it is the norm.
Perhaps the pattern they use to cut the welts at the factory is just too big and there has not been enough complaints about this to change it.
None of my other knife sheaths have such a tall and protruding welt.

I think the more that welt gets cut, the easier it will be to sheath the knife.

Gracias !
Good advise.

I am loving the knife !!!

It has added meaning as well because my youngest daughter accompanied me to the store when I bought it a few days ago.
Today, I drove her to the airport as she will start university on Monday very far away.

I have a habit of getting a knife to mark important occasions :)
