The Buck 117 Brahma ( black phenolic / 420 HC ) and the 117 Brahma Pro ( Olive drab- green micarta/S35VN ) have sold out at Buck where the 117 Pro was the BOM in March 2020 with 500 made and sold @ 180 each. Copper and Clad is sold out of both knives and so is SMKW.

I think its popular because its a handy little fixed blade, it is and feels a bit bigger and beefier than the 102 woodsman and with the same blade profile as the 119. The 117 adds a valuable 1/2 inch to both the blade and the handle. I could see this cannibalizing/replacing the 102 very easily in the eyes of the consumer as the "more ideal" lite fixed blade hunting/camp/hiking knife. It would be interesting to see Buck to a Boy Scout edition of this knife as it would be a perfect knife for that market.

It is not listed on the buck website (other than the sold out BOM edition) the 117 series are listed in the "New for 2023" publication....

I’ll be patient as they will eventually show up on Buck’s website for order. I would be curious to know how many each of the larger retailers received of the various examples. 50? 100? More?

its toughness is superior to most of the other steels Buck uses. Bucks heat treat gives it good edge retention. it's super easy to get sharp again in the field. it's a carbon steel and I like carbon steels
