I have finally decided to try out a Buck 117 after looking at one for a while. Some reviews I've read say that it comes with a 105 sheath that is too long for the blade. Since the 117 and 118 have the same blade length (4.5") and the same handle, I thought the 118 sheath might be a better fit. Can anyone confirm this?

Best,
Matthew

As I remeber I sold a 117 Brahma together with a 118 sheath.
If you like i can verify it tomorrow.

It is a much better fit. Seems a little long, but it fits like the rest of the buck knives do. The 117 is a great knife, perfect size IMHO.

Here you are Matthew,

same size, same sheath. The knife fits into the sheath perfectly

Thanks for the pictures Haebbie. Very helpful. Now that I know the knives are nearly the same size I might try to track down one of the older flap style 118 sheaths for the 117.

Matthew, it won't work, I tried mine(117) in a 118 flap sheath. Preston

Preston,

Just out of curiosity (as I'm sure it doesn't make a difference) was your 117 the leather handled version or the phenolic handled version?

It's the hilt that won't go into the sheath...tried it on two that I found, have others and will try as I find them. Haebbie must have just forced his in:p Preston

Well, there's not a lot of space, but the guard slips into the sheath without to be stuck. May be other sheath will be more tight.

Yes Haebbie, I was thinking that there could also be a difference in the tolerance of hilt's. Preston

... and in the width of the sheath...

It is late in the evening now. Let's have a look tomorrow. Good night, sleep tight.

Must be the differences in sheaths and knives. Thanks. Preston
