I just got this knife for 50$ US and think its amazing knife for money.Nice fit, finish, thin high hollow grind ,make it excellent choice as edc fixed blade for any cutting chore.Any experiences ,pros and cons of this knife?

I picked up a 70's era 118 at a gun show last year for around $30 if I remember correctly. I liked it so much that it replaced my 560 for deer duty which I thought wasn't possible. The blade is perfect size & shape and a great handle for the job.

I am a fan of the 118 too. Forst I prefered the 102 Bowie, but the handle of the 118
has a mor usable size for me and the high tip makes the knife more usable. I am
looking forward to the 5160 steel 118 that is offered now in America. I am curious how
the knife works with the carbon steel. I like the 420HC steel for the 118. But
how is it told: the better is the enemy of the good?

I bought the model with the D2 steel. The edge was beveled nicely but rough. I polished it on a hard arkansas stone and it took a razor sharp edge. I use mine on the boat quite a bit fishing. Great size very comfortable in the hand.

I have been using a Buck 118 (of 425M) to clean and cut up deer for the last few seasons - I find it to be the perfect size knife for whitetail - the right sized handle to be comfortable in the hand, but with a small enough blade to work inside when cutting meat off the bone. I just found a used one to be a backup (a 1994 version, using 420HC) it's the backup to my original - going to stay in my pack unless I need it. I am also going to buy one of the new brass bolster/5160 versions (if I can get their website to work). OH

If you google "Buck 118 5160", it should be one of the top results from the big South American River site.

If that reference wasn't obscure enough, let me know and I'll delete it if a mod doesn't get to it first. ;)

I think the 118 is my favorite Buck fixed blade. Got one in the early 80's and let someone talk me out of it, regretted that move for many years until they started making them again. I bought two of the phenolic handled ones and a wood handled one, these are not for sale as long as I'm still breathing !!

Thank you for the tip, and that is exactly what I did earlier this morning. In fact it is already on the way per the C&C owner. OH
