I was checking out this knife few days ago and am thinking to get it.Nice high hollow grind and upswept blade shape. How is the quality of this knife? How does it perform? How is the sheat?

I just bought one made with D2 steel. I like it very much and the higher quality blade takes a incredible edge. I like the plastic liner in the sheath. Good knife get one.

Lots of info on this knife in the BUCK sub-forum. It's a BUCK - it's a great knife.

I too have a 118 in D2. Especially with that steel, it is pretty fantastic. Good for fish and game processing as it is meant to do but I've also used it for other light woodsman stuff.

the 420 hc that buck uses is excellent. Buck uses a heat treat process that makes theirs the best 420hc. My experience is it holds and edge well and sharpens nice. It's not a super steel, but works just fine.

Not too big. Not too small. Called The Personnal because it was Hoyt (the founder) Buck's favorite knife of their early fixed blade product line. The D-2 variant is a gift.

I am getting the one with 420hc,btw,d2 is my favorite steel, and if I ever run into buck 118 in d2 im getting it for sure! Love high hollow grinds and the way they cut soft materials:).And yes,Bucks 420hc is all you would ever need.....doesn't rust easily and behaves almost like carbon steel-1095 or similar and is as easy to get it sharp! Thin hollow grind that Buck does is my favorite and slices really well!

They're still available in d2 if you use minimal google fu. Even if you get it in 420hc, it's still a great knife.

As its been said, Buck does an excellent job with their heat treat. Overall they continue to have success by providing quality knives, at an affordable price, and by having the best warranty.

Here is a picture of the sheath and knife. It's a quality sheath, that is sewn south of the border. The BKS has a matching black sheath while the BRS has a dark brown sheath.

I have a user from 440C; it holds an edge well. I like that the handle is made to match hand size and not scaled down to match the blade size.
