As I ponder my next Buck acquistion, I was leaning toward the Personal. But then the Fisherman popped up on my radar. Another nice looking Buck. From a distance and to the uneducated eye. They seem quite similar.

Since I alrady own the 103, and like it. I was curious about these other two.

The adventerous kid in me, says go for the 119 Brahma, or the new 117 Mini Brahma.
And I must admit I like Bear Claw's Selkirk too.

But something says I should own a Personal.

The Buck 121 has a longer, flexible blade - think of a fishing knife but not quite as thin. I did breast a turkey with my Buck 121 last season and it worked nicely - the flexibility was good around the breast bone and helped me get all the meat. Now the Buck 118 is my favorite Buck fixed blade for deer hunting - the handle is big enough to grip well, while the blade is short and narrow enough to work inside the carcass while deboning meat, yet the sweep on the blade makes for easy skinning. I can use the Buck 118 in lieu of using a Buck 103 to skin and a Buck 105 to cut meat (of course there is nothing wrong with using more than one Buck while working a deer!) Get one of each, then you can do your own working tests - but go with the Buck 118 first - you can thank me later! I just bought a second Buck 118 so I will always have a spare just in case I lose the first one. OH

The newer 121's with "Commitment To Hunters" on the blade that is part of the Boone and Crockett series has a much thicker blade with virtually no flex. It is geared more for hunting than fishing. You can still find good deals on vintage 121's, one of my favorites, on the big auction sites. The new version is also a very sweet knife. The 118 is a classic, I have been using mine for longer than I can remember. Both great knives!

Two things. One, I envy the folks that have a life where they can actually use their different Buck knives. Unlike me, who carries a 110 one week a year apparently just for looks. And two, those who have the kahonies to use an excellent three line inverted.
