Was at a gun show and purchased a 118 with a partially serrated blade with a datecode of 1997.Have been collecting buck fixed blade knives for about 4 years now and this is the first one i have seen.Does anyone have any info on how many were produced and if buck done this to other models the same year? Thanks

Kel, Welcome . I don't know and have not seen a 118 with serrations . Nor have I seen any of Buck's fixed blade knives with serrations . Even all the way back to 1961 and the 121 Fisherman it had a scaler on the spine which looked somewhat like serrations . I have seen several folders w/ serrations . So, thats a good find . Can you post pictures ?
Thanks . DM

I think those 118s were limited editions.

Seems like I saw one on the Bay not too long ago.

Thanks for the info guys.I also have a 105 that is serrated. How do you post pictures? If I can figure it out I will post some.

Yer welcome.....they are not common, but I have seen a couple lately.

The one in the picture does appear to have a '97 marking, but it's hard to see.

In Buck's 1989 catalog they introduced 4 models with partially serrated blades. The 105N1, 426N1, 301N1, and 317N1. The following year the 317 had been dropped and the 110N1 was added. They were all gone the next year.
I looked at the auction link and that knife is fairly recent, if that is the correct box. The knife might even be bg-42?
Kel, can you tell us what the box end label says? I should be able to look it up if you can get me the catalog number or part number from that lable.

I'm pretty sure I can see an upside down U on that blade......anybody else?

Not sure if it has the correct box but the model number is 118-PXO and the catalog number is 9056 it is also in a 105 sheath.I also have a 105 serrated balde with a date code X.Which would make it 90 but i have no box for that. Thanks for all of your responses.

Kelkev, welcome, you can post pics by using a service like photobucket or flikr or you can upgrade to a Gold membership which includes photo album options(along with some other very cool features)

Joe, I've since came across that catalogue from 1990 and it has that series and models serrated as you state . Thanks . DM

This past weekend while displaying at a show I stumbled onto a Buck 103 that had serrations and a 97 year stamp . The box was not correct . Could this be of BG-42 steel ? DM

David,
I do not know of any model 103 projects using bg-42 steel. Joe should be able to give a definite answer.

This '97 Buck 103 has no BG-42 blade.
