Buck 118 with no 118? Is my buck 118 even real?

I bought a buck knife at a garage sale and when I got home the sheath had the number 118 on it. I looked it up and it matched every picture I could find of a buck 118, except one thing. The knife itself has no number 118 on it. Only buck and USA. Is this super rare or something? I can't find any without the 118 on the knife itself.

Picture doesn't seem to work so go here to see it : https://twitter.com/larrymcdoodle/status/636753738078646273

It was made between 1968 and 1971 going by how tang is stamped, they didn't start putting the model # on the tang until 1972 for the 118

HomePolecat,

Did the knife come with a sheath? That can help to date the knife?

Can anyone tell if the spacer is hard fiber or micarta? I am guessing hard fiber.

David,

One question is whether the model number is on the belt loop or somewhere on the sheath itself.

The sheath for the 1968 100 series 2-liner had the model number on the belt loop.

Quick summary
U.S.A was added in 1967 (started exporting knives to Canada).
The spacer changed from Fiber to Micarta in 1969.
The model number was added in 1972.
The tang stamp was changed from inverted to upright in 1973.

I think the spacers are Micarta as DM suggests so that puts the knife 1969 to 1972.
If they are fiber then the knife is 1967 to 1969.

Now, reading my notes. Model numbers began appearing on the sheath belt loop at the same time USA appeared on the blade. 1968 or late 67. In 1969 the spacer material changed from bone hard fiber to red (maroon) micarta. Model numbers were added in 72. DM
