So my father-in-law just gave me what has to be the strangest Buck 119 I've ever seen. I tried to help him trade it about three years ago and didn't drum up any interest so when he gave it to me tonight, I thought I'd do a bit more research. Trying various search terms in google, I found lots of limited edition and custom 119s but only one other like mine and it sold for only $30!
"That can't be right," thought I, "the regular 119 goes for at least $70!"
Even though the huge '100' cutout in the middle of the blade is pretty tacky, I can't imagine a 1 of 100 LE Buck being so unpopular.
So, what's the deal with these? Did Buck strike out that badly with this model that nobody wants it? Are they all hiding away in their owner's safes, waiting to accrue some actual value? Are they actually valuable and someone scored an excellent deal at $30?
I admit, my Buck knowledge is next to nothing so I wanted to ask the experts. I'd hate to toss it on the market for pennies, only to find out that it's worth some real money but I also don't want to have such a big box taking up space in my small safe if it's not really worth holding on to.
Any information is greatly appreciated!

It's not 1 of 100, Buck's Special Projects list for that year says there were over 1100 made. That's still a small number and it should be worth more than a standard 119 for sure. How much more depends on who wants it, and how bad. It would appeal more to a collector than a user for sure, with the cutout in the blade.

Yes, $30 would have been a deal....the internet is a fickel place.
The regular 119 sells for $45 at Wally World with a nylon sheath.
I've seen the "100" cutout completed sales on the Bay in the $80-$100 range although there are much higher "asking prices" sometimes.

I see the "100" cutout selling on the Bay in the $80-$100 range normally.

The $30 example sold on here, I believe. I am glade to hear that they go for a bit more.

Thanks for the info on this, guys! Now I've just gotta decide if I need to keep it.

Whats the handle material I wonder?

It's Palm Wood, Buck also did a 401 with a Leopard on the blade with this material. I think I paid $90-100 for the one I have. My Daughter calls it my 001 knife, that's because this knife has to point in the wrong direction for use with Buck's multi-knife display stands.*

If you want a rare one I believe there were 47 made for Shepard Hills Cutlery with the same blade and a heritage walnut handle. FYI.

Man... I'd love to have a regular 119 blade with that palmwood handle... that would be a SWEET camp knife!

That's what I'm saying! I love the regular 119 as it is but the palmwood really would look great.

I really like the look of the Palmwood myself and I don't recall Buck using it on a 119 other than the 100 year model. They should, they've used it on at least one Kalinga and a 118. It makes a beautiful handle.
