Does anyone know if the Buck 119 was made in any other steel than 420HC ? If it was , what were the other steels ?

...and s30v is on the way. BCCI members should watch for the March newsletter soon to be in the mail. Oh, Buck called the 425 version 425 modified, as I recall.

We've recently had this answered here and I posted this recently in the General Forum. However, with the recent changes to this site I've had trouble finding topics with the search, I knew had been discussed. So, a 119 can be found with the steels mentioned plus, ATS-34, Titanium, (called Buck-Cote), Sanvik steel and D2 may have been an offering. Or soon. Anyway, this gives one 7 steels offered with this one model. DM

Mine is a regular 119 with 425 mod. Steel, and I love it,I wouldn't trade it for anything,it's a great hunting and camping knife, can do just about anything,I'd love one in440 c but hard to find.

I had a few Bucks with the old 440C steel and they were very tough to sharpen. I must have worn out a couple of carborundum stones (this was before diamond hones) trying to put an edge on those things. I much prefer the current 420HC. It would be great to see Buck using 5160 in the 119... (hint)

I suspect you would have loved the 440c steel with a convex edge on it.if you look at any old 440c blade you will notice it's much thicker at the edge than new 420 blades, and that was for strength, but it also made them harder to sharpen.i put convex edges on my old bucks and they seem to be easier to sharpen and really stay sharp a long time.

Those models with 440C are more available. Still, as some said the semi hollow grind has to be dealt with. I have the 119 in ATS-34 blade and it is a good cutter, boning, deer knife. DM
