I was at a local big box store and saw that Buck has come out with a leather-washer handled knife! Looks more or less like a blackened 119 blade with very robust, apparently steel hilt and pommel and a stacked leather handle with black spacers about an inch apart. Looks rugged...like a KaBar. Molle sheath.

Anyone have this knife? How is it?

Ok well I've found out more. This is in fact not only a 119 blade but this is a 119. I just don't think the geometry of the 119 fits very well with the handle...slender point, hollow grind, etc.

Lots of Brahma post in the last few months....lots of information if you search....don't have one and don't plan on getting one unless the handle is replaced with stacked Ivory!!!!!!

Yes the Brahma is a variation of the 119. There are already a few variations of the knife as issued from the factory. The one I got has thin leather rings and is a darker color, the newer ones have thicker leather rings and are a lighter color.

Here are photo's of the one sent to me.

I dunno if I'd buy one, depends on the price I suppose like most things. But I do kind of like the look as it's reminiscent of the old WWII blades from Ka-Bar and others.

I'm curious how the stacked leather would hold up to heavy use with oils, blood, whatever on it. No idea how to treat it or clean it. I'm guessing Buck has done some sort of leather treatment on it to prevent rot or degradation.

Stack leather will last a long time with little TLC. I have a knife or 2 that were carried in WWII and the leather has deteriorated some. Then I have some from the Korea era that were treated and these are in much better shape. So, 65 years for leather is not bad. Which would be beyond most of our lifetime. With more Bees wax applied I'll get more years. DM
