I'm gonna buy a 119 from Wal-Mart. A USA made fixed blade, lifetime warranty and a Paul Boss heat treat for only $35 is something NO knife nut can pass up. Anyway, I usually regrind my fixed blades. This would be a knife i'd put through some use. Convex at 220 seems to hold up PERFECTLY, BUT i don't really have the materials to sharpen a convexed edge while out and about, BUT if I flat grind at 220 i still have that nice toothy edge, but I can touch it up like nothing. What do you guys think?

I think you will like Bucks Edge2K that is already on it. Shes pretty thin at the cutting edge! Post pics whichever you decide!

Nate, Welcome. The hollow grind Buck puts on the 119 is better than either grind you mention. There have been many articles posted to that effect on this forum. But do what you like. DM

i have to cast my vote for the factory grind..
but you are the one to use it so ...

I love convex grinds - but you need more edge thickness than the hollow ground blade with that fine edge leaves. It works great as-is - and you can touch it up with a small flat stone or a Spydie Sharpmaker. It's a great kitchen knife, too!

ok, thanks guys-i think i'll either flat grinf, or touch it up just to get it a little sharper than it comes-just something i usually do with my knives

In what way do you mean regrind? Just the edge bevel, or the whole primary grind?

The edge bevel is fairly easy to convex or flat. I tend to go more acute than stock, laying the hollow of the primary grind flat to the abrasive. On a belt sander, the edge bevel will tend to come out convex unless held against the platen.

There may not be enough meat to do a full convex grind without some of the hollow remaining. A full flat grind may work. But either way, that's a hell of a lot of work.

just picked up a 119 at wally world. 36 bucks total. This is my first Buck knife (sort of). I owned a 110 (clone I imagine) when I was a kid. It was my very first knife and I carried it everywhere. It had Pakistan on the blade. I think I will look for it when I go home in a few weeks. Probably laying around somewhere.

I had no idea this was such a good knife for the money. Damn. thanks bladeforum.
