Hi guys, first time posting, glad to be here. I apologize if I'm not posting in the correct location I'm still figuring out the site.

I've began collecting the Buck 119 fixed blades and I have a few questions I'm hoping the experts here may be able to help me with.

From what I've read on the Internet and on random forums it seems there is a lot of discussion on the markings at the base of the blade. I have a 100th anniversary 119 (laser etched) with the anvil logo and buck USA, while another 119 anniversary (gold 100 cut in the blade) that reads Buck then the anvil and under the anvi it says custom and USA. What does the custom represent? Because this is a factory knife so I just don't know what the custom is for.

And my second question: Is there multiple versions of the 100th anniversary knife (gold cut out in the blade? And when I say versions I mean did they offer that knife in different handles? Ive seen the palm wood, but I've heard of a walnut handled version.

Thanks for the help guys.

Hi Cobrabob, these questions will be best answered in the Buck forum. Hang tight and well see if we can get this moved for you.
PS Welcome to Bladeforums :)

Ok, first the anvil stamp issue. For many years Buck used the anvil stamp for limited edition knives (some also had "custom"), now the fun part is Buck also used this anvil for the 2002 year stamp. This issue has been a sore spot with many collectors as it makes it hard to find out what year some of the LE's were made.

The 100 year 119 came with Palm wood handles. Buck some times will make build out knives using up old parts, like left over blades ect.

I don't think it's all that complicated. In 2002 the Anvil was used as the date code on all production knives. No model numbers were used that year. "Custom" knives did not use the Anvil until 2002 and later and the anvil is always accompanied with the word "Custom". An Anvil on the tang not accompanied by the word "Custom" is a 2002 knife. Any knife marked with an Anvil accompanied by the word "Custom" was produced 2002 or later. Custom knife production information are on the "Special Projects" lists which can be found on the Buck Collectors website. If you are not already a member, you should be.

02 was 10 years ago.....that's a whole lot of LEs under the bridge;). FYI, not all of the SO/LEs with the anvil stamp have the word "Custom". Yep, I can look the info up in the data sheets as well as the next guy. It's just easier with a date code.

Yes, I too have noticed not all the LE's came with the 'custom' wording. Causing some confusion with this stamp. DM

Cobra, Welcome. To address your other area of interest in this post; the 100 yr. Anniversary knives (not the cut out) were done different. Several variations can be found among the 100yr. Anniversary knives. Some have the writing on the blade others don't, some have the sheath stamped others don't. Then others have a medalion inset in the handle while others don't. I've even seen some with the wording on both sides of the blade which are very rare. Still, many variations among those 100yr. Anniversary knives (not just with the 119) can be found. DM

See this is what i thought with the 100 year knife, that it was palm wood. But I have a photo of one with a handle that looks like the cocabola wood, possibly a little darker but for sure not the palm wood and thats why I wondered if there was a different version of the 100 year. I'm on my phone and I can't seem to add the photo but I will do it once I get home and can use my computer. Thanks for the help, I'm going to get set up on the buck collectors website as well, I knew this would be the right place to get answers. Also, anyone ever run across any119 master series there looking to get rid of please let me know. Thanks again
