Buck 119 Special with 410HC steel?

I've been scoping out 119's at a few places and ran across one in the case at Wally World that has 410HC on the package. I thought they were all made with 420HC. All the other ones I've seen are 420. It was priced exactly the same as the others. It still had the American flag on the package, too.

Anyone seen this before?20170109_210115.jpg

Let's try asking in the center of Buck knowledge, the Buck Forum, instead of the General Forum.
Moving there now.

Knarfeng - Thanks for steering this to the right forum. I'm still trying to get the hang of how this group works.

My guess is it's a typo. Are you sure it's not a counterfeit 119? Printing mistakes are often encountered on counterfeit products......

When I read this I was thinking a misprint. The only Buck item I've seen state the blade is 410 stainless is Buck's spreader knife. Which comes in their kitchen knife set. DM

That's a good point. I am not sure about the counterfeit possibility, but I would hope Mr. Wally is getting stock from a legitimate source.

410 (not sure where the HC came from) does not have a lot of carbon, even less than 420HC. It does have a lot of Chromium and manganese and nickel. I hope it is a misprint.

Pretty sure thats just a typo.
Buck started with 440C then went to 425 before finally switching to 420HC in 1994.

I have never seen a 410HC in BOS before only 5160 on the label..

Wow, 410HC for a 119? I have one of the spreaders it's 410HC and if it get left in the sink (kids) it gets discolored spots on the blade. Not sure I would want a 119 in 410HC, I'm also not a fan of 5160 due to the discoloration patina.

These are definitely not 410. Looks like a packaging error. Checking into it now.

Just checked. The logo is wrong on the clam cards. The verbage on the back is also correct. Just that pesky logo.

Rest assured it is 420HC.

Also the spreader is 420hc also.

Thank for the update MR. Hubbard!

The devil's in the detail's, just got back from shopping at the Fairfield, CA Walmart and the two 119 clam packs were labeled with the same logo "410HC"

Jeff - Thank you for checking this out and responding so quickly. For what it's worth, the Walmart that had the 410hc label is in Murphy, Tx. All the 119s I've seen at several other DFW Walmarts say 420hc on the package.

Thank you Mr. Hubbard for helping us out with this subject.
John, that's what I had seen and read. So, you think it's... DM

I will have to check on that. Thanks!

You all are indeed right. It is 410Hc. That is what I get for going off of my memory. In my defense, I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.

and I'm just Jeff, my Dad is Mr. Hubbard :)

Thanks for bringing this up to our attention. We are trying to figure out how long the package error has been going on.

Haha,

Jeff that is the same line I use when someone calls me MR. Burton:thumbup:. Anyway, thank you for your time on this, helps to clear our confusion.

Thanks, Mr. Hubbard for snooping this out for us. Doesn't matter, right or wrong.-- You told us and I respect you. DM

Whew! I am glad that is a typo. 410 is not very good steel for a 119. For a spreader, it is ok as it does not need to hold an edge.
