Buck 119 v steel type?

I picked this knife up awhile ago,and once sharpened it has been a great cutter and I've yet to re sharpen it.is this 425 m or 440c?i like it a lot compared to the new 420 hc they offer now.

I'd say it's 425M. Your date code is 1989 and I believe Buck used 425M in the 119 from 1981 to 1993 or 94. I've got a few different Bucks with 425M and find it quite a good steel.

I agree, 425MOD may have been the best of the standard steels for a user knife. I seek out Buck's made with 425M. OH

Buck used 425M from 1981-92. I like that steel a good mid range steel between 440C & 420HC. DM
