It had been my understanding that the Buck 120 "General" had been discontinued for quite a few years now. While searching for some custom made leather sheaths for my 119 and 120s, I came across what looks like a newly introduced version of the 120 called the Buck B&C Hunt Fair Chase General Hunting Knife which looks a heck of alot like the old 120, especially with the inclusion of the word "General" in its description..

Does anyone have the scoop on this, is it a worker of a field knife worth the 7 3/8" steel the satin finish is on, or more of a nice addition to ones Buck collection?

Cheers,
Serge

Here's a pic, please let me know if I'm wrong or in the ballpark on this one.

It's a Limited Edition that came out earlier this year. In the photo/image I've seen on Buck's website the clip point blade doesn't seem quite as pronounced as on my older 120 but that could just be the way that image is rendered. As far as I know it's basically a standard 120 except for the emblem on the handle and the blade markings. If I were in the market for a new 120 and could get it at a decent price I'd go for it and use it just like any other. To my eye there just isn't enough about it that sets it apart from a standard 120 to make if a safe queen. Buy it, use it, enjoy it.

Buck hasn't cataloged 120s for about ten years, but they've made them for Cabelas all that time and also have made limited runs for other sellers who ordered a bunch (like maybe 150) at a time.

Knives that big are not a large volume item any more.

2001 was the last year in the catalog. I've seen pictures with the following date codes since then.
2005 (Pro-Line), 2005 (Cocobolo & Brass, reportedly only 200 made), 2008, 2010, and ???? (Boone & Crocket)
The B&C version is on the website but currently not available.

edit.... I went back and looked at my notes, I don't have a tang picture of a Boone & Crocket....I assume it's a 2011 knife but ???

I agree with these other collectors information on this model. But I purchased a 110 Boone and Crockett last year with the writing on the blade and emblem. Is this model an extension of this same theme for this year? Whats the date code stamp? DM

Anyone out there with a Boone & Crockett 120 General? What's the date code on the tang?
Inquiring minds want to know....;o)

Found one on the bay and if you copy and enlarge the photo you can see it as the 2011 date stamp

For a limited edition, I wish they had done something classier than the Hunt Fair Chase blade stamp. Not a particular big fan of simple blade stamps. Aurum, now that's a different matter.
